The previous review must have been written by Ron and Marg themselves, as I would have to refute their claims. The backpackers i have to admit were great but the management of the hostel was appalling, but what does one expect when they drink themselves to a stupor every night, and allow the non-resident clientele to run amok. As for... More

This hostel was very dirty, the kitchen was a health hazzard. The hostel is fully licenced and is also used bij locals to have a drink and party at night, these visitors also use the bathrooms and therefor cross the hallway, making a lot of noise. Very much noise also from the music in the bar and television! This location... More

After for staying for a period of four weeks the only positive which came from my experience there was walking free from the alcatraz-like compound. The rooms consisted of bunk beds which were infested with bed bugs, a lack of natural light from having no windows, air-conditioning was non-existant so on a hot day the room which was overly occupied... We stayed there for 5 nights... the quiet, the familial atmosphere, and the kindness, help of Ron and Marg was the esentials elements to pass a charming stay in Maffra!!! Furthermore the backpackers has a good situation: near the bus station, shops, a supermarket, and near a lovely river where we met lovely people! Sure you'll pass good moments there!... More

We were in Maffra for a gymnastic Camp and had 14 girls with us . Marg and Ron are great host happy to help and make sure we had all we needed. Such a relaxed place that none of us wanted to leave and we would be more than happy to stay again. All of the others staying at the... More

We visited this Maffra hostel rather than stopping at Lakes Entrance as we had seen the good reviews. We wish we hadn't! This place must've seriously gone down hill in the last few years. It was smelly, filthy and full of some very scary and not welcoming characters. You can see that the place at one point had character but... More

The Cambrai hasn't been reviewed here in a few years, but it's still great! I stayed for a few days in December and the owners Ron and Marg are so helpful and welcoming. If you're on a working holiday, they'll help you find work in the farms or onsite. The hostel is in the centre of town with Woolworths just... More
