I find this a much better stop over both coming from England and going back. From the ferry avoid the motorway and go by the RN, for those who like browsing in charity shops there is a good 'Depot Emauus' not far from Calais. Stayed here before, this is my 3rd or 4th stay. Also stayed before in Etap which is very basic, but this is just a step up. Barely one hour from Calais/Shuttle, the Ibis in St Omer is a very convenient stop-over. Centrally located, own carpark (we've always got a place though it might be full for late arrivers), it's a typical Ibis, small(ish) but quite adequate rooms, friendly service and good value.
