We were upgraded to a suite that seemed to stretch across the whole of the Fort! I think this is the first hotel that my wife and I have stayed at where the" welcome drink" was Champagne! This was continued on the evening sunset boat trip on the river. As keen gardeners we liked the organic garden where vegetables for the... More

A wonderful experience on so many fronts - it offers a holistic experience of a sacred hindu town on a clean picturesque river ghat with bucolic village on the opposite bank and temples built into the walls of the fort. So easy to slip into the atmosphere and relaxed way to see all the colourful local life, town, market, rural,... More

We spent 4 nights here over Christmas and it was very special. We had the amazing Raj tent which is set in its own flower-filled garden overlooking the river and ghats, and from the sofas on our ramparts we could look down all day if we wanted to at the people washing, bathing, offering puja or just strolling. We took... More

This was my second trip to Ahilya and remains one of my favourite places to stay in India. The hotel is in the Palace Fort complex of the local Maharaja, the ramparts of which are overlooking the wonderful and alive Ramada River. Although expensive, it is a worthwhile indulgence. Everything is taken care of for you, and all is included... More

from the moment you arrive until when you have to leave this place is pure pleasure. The ambience of the rooms decor, the flowers and plants everywhere, the food is the best I have ever had in any Indian Hotel (and in a different place in the fort every meal), the 4 pug dogs who make you feel you are... As I am a Tour Escort , I know so many hotels in India but this one is really something out of the world. Not many know about this hotel , I cannot even call it a hotel , it is a home in a garden with its own charm, situated on the banks of Narmada . Even my own... More

This was my fourth trip to India; my first visit to Maheshwar. Ahilya Fort is the first Heritage Hotel I have booked. My wife and I booked a spacious, well-appointed standard room for two nights as a Christmas present to each other. The hotel is luxe in a very charming and understated way. The service is excellent without being intrusive... More

Our booking was difficult and no apologies forthcoming. The first night we spent in Looboo's Lodge, a miserable space where the cracks in the door admitted mosquitos, they had sprayed it with some ghastly smelling chemical, but did at our request find bedside lights. There was not even a brochure to inform us of the activities available. Very second rate.... More
