Spent twelve days here last summer and enjoyed each day, although I missed having a sandy beach. However it was possible to swim safely in the sea from the jetty beside the hotel pool and garden, which was also excellent. 5* treatment at all times especially for the meals where the choice was great. We visited Madeira 16 years ago and always wanted to return. After all this time we finally decided to stay at the Riu Palace Hotel, April 23rd to 30th 2012. The Hotel decor, position and facilities, staff, restaurant food/choice and service was that of a full 5 star hotel. Even if I wanted to be (as some foolish people) finding... More

We are a couple age 53 and 49 and stayed here for 1 week in September 2011 - it was everything we were hoping for, peaceful, relaxing, great food and the climate was perfect, we had a wonderful holiday. Having previously holidayed at the Riu Buena Vista Hotel in Playa de Paraiso, Tenerife we would highly recommend Riu hotels, you... More

to a nice standard this hotel has lovely well trained welcoming and helpful staff. Food is fresh and good but maybe a bit boring after a few nights. Bedrooms spacious and adequately furnished but could do with a wee bit of upgrading eg carpets tired as was same in dining room. Beautiful location over the sea and nice wee promenade... More

I have just spent a week in this hotel with my husband, I was very impressed with the cleanliness, food quality was excellent, staff could not be nicer and more helpful. Beautiful pool area and indoor pool. There was a good shuttle service into Funchal in the daytime / early evening. Funchal is a lovely place to visit, and can... More

The room spacious - bathroom smallish, very clean but had a tiny step into shower area - I've a slight mobility problem but was fine. Balcony small corner view of sea (late booking) As reviewers have said - Canico/Maderia is very hilly (reminded me of Wales... More

This is a lovely hotel, with the advantage of a free shuttle bus into Funcha, which takes about 20 mins. My husband and I booked for a week but only had 2 nts as had to fly home due to a bereavement. Funchal is a lovely interesting place and this hotel is superb, with lovely staff and food. We must... More

This was our first Riu hotel but it was so good they will be the first hotels we try for any holiday in the future. Now for the review. Fantastic food especially the gala dinners. Staff really friendly and helpful. Good sized spotless room with two large double wardrobes so plenty of room if staying longer. More hangers are readily... More
