My wife and I were traveling through on a business trip and I wanted to stop for lunch and a pint since they craft their own beer. I had the Crab Cakes and a Carol’s Royal Stout. The small portion of the lump crab was small. Very tasty, but small. The whipped potatoes were not whipped, had no flavor and they were cold. The asparagus was cooked well but cold. The Hollandaise sauce noticeably cold. The stout was plain. Looked like a stout, tasted like a light beer. My wife ordered the Schweinebraten. Traditional roasted pork loin with sauerkraut and potato dumpling. Instead, she received the a special of the day Pork Shank, Brussels sprouts, onions, and butternut squash mash (I think). All the vegetable dishes were cold. My wife just couldn’t do the pork shank. The server was apologetic. She was young and was trying very hard. She just got it wrong. My wife decided she couldn’t eat anything after. The manger was very nice when we came in and accommodate us with great consideration. However, that was it. Never came by to ask about food. Shouldn’t he want to know if the food coming out of the kitchen was good. Isn’t that part of the position. Unless German food is served cold, the chef should be embarrassed. I left very disappointed.

Stopped in for lunch while exploring the area. Fancy but not pretentious atmosphere. Lovely dining room with cozy fireplace & pleasant view of Potomac. Assorted array of authentic German cuisine & comfort foods. The onion soup was the best I’ve had & the sausage sampler was splendid. Magical cocktail list & draft beers to accentuate any meal. Autumn served with the utmost grace, hospitality, attention to detail & manners. I look forward to returning in warmer weather so as to sit outside & enjoy the view.

Great Pub area. However’ the main dining room is reminiscent of a nursing home dining room from the ‘80’s… and is I n tragic need of updating. Overall has the makings of a great experience (provided you eat in the pub area) with the exception of the F&B leadership… it’s obvious they don’t train their staff and these poor servers are just thrown to the wolves.

Very disappointed with the entire Bavarian Inn experience - property, rooms, pool, dining. Overall, this entire place needs a through renovation. The carpet in the room was soiled, the bathroom walls were dirty and the deck was covered with dirt/ debris. The problem with the deck is that the planks have 1/4" - 3/8" gap and dirt/debris from upper floors falls on to your deck. The deck was unusable. Weeds in all the flower beds. The pool was cloudy for the first two days, then they added too many chemicals and it became unusable for our third day. We stayed two nights and considered leaving after the first night. The owner offered to have us return at his expense, but until they renovate, no desire to return. Very sad and disappointed.

Love this place !... Food is great atmosphere is perfect. I've been going to this place before Erwin & Carol had kids. They're retired now and their two boys run the show. It hasn't missed a beat ... Should you be anywhere withing a 70 mile radius, you need to check out the Bavarian Inn. Arguably the best German Restaurant outside the Motherland.

This was a great way to pamper ourselves while we did a bike trip along the C&O Canal. The hotel room was large and very comfortable with a fireplace and bathrobes and balcony. We enjoyed beer from the brewpub before dinner, then had a lovely dinner on the patio. After dinner we sat with friends around the fire pit. And I enjoyed a hearty breakfast the next morning before we started our bike trip. I would definitely stay here again the next time I am in the area.

Stayed in a room with a scant view of the Potomac River and on a bottom floor so we heard footsteps above. Made the reservation more than 6 months ahead of time and a repeat visitor. The room had wet carpet from a leaking AC and you can tell they don’t fix it because the baseboard was rotting out. Front desk didn’t care because the place was full. The pool is nice though.

I was disappointed by the food, the ambience and the service. Their website states "European Elegance on the Potomac". Being European myself and having travelled extensively throughout Europe the restaurant does not offer European elegance. The food was average, and I was amazed that the waiter thought it OK to clear the table for my three fellow eaters whilst I was still eating, and even bring the check without asking if I had finished my meal. And it was impossible to get an espresso coffee to finish the meal. Overall very disappointing

We came here for dinner and had good German-influenced food. It's the best meal we've had in the area. Probably best to keep things simple, but the Maryland crab cakes (the Inn is just over the Potomac from Maryland) and the sauerkraut with wursts were fine, as was the Bavarian Inn's home-brewed beer. Service was friendly, and the prices, while high for the area, were very reasonable overall.
