We stayed at the Market House in Pahala itself and really enjoyed the property. We booked last minute on airbnb and Julia met our needs nicely! We checked in without fanfare and were met by Julia who showed us around a bit and gave us some usefull tips for sites in the area. We particularly enjoyed the black sand beach... More

We've been taking a large group to the big island for the past 15 years, and the Pahala Plantation Cottages are great for our needs. We travel all around the island, from Kailua Kona to Volcanoes National Park to Hilo and all the way up the Hamakua coast. If you are looking for lots of beach and a day or... More

It was so great to be able to stay in such a historic house in Pahala, HI. My crew and I stayed there for 2 weeks and lived like one big happy family. The local townspeople and Hawaiians in general are so hospitable and couldn't do enough for us. We, as always, look forward to another stay with the colourful... More

This is a beautiful house that was built in the 1930's in the sleepy town of Pahala. It used to be a store of some kind so the living/dinning room is open and spacious. The rooms are exquisitely decorated with antiques from Sugarcane's glory days. It's a fantastic place to stay if you want to have a quiet holiday or... More

What a great find! At the recommendation of a friend, we booked the Market Cottage in Pahala and boy are we glad we did as the main entrance to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park sits just 20 minutes away. The Market Cottage was not listed on the website, but sounded interesting. It was the meat market for the town, and has... More

I loved this place! It was my first time to Hawaii and I was traveling solo. The manager, Julia, was wonderfully accommodating and friendly. It was an ideal location to meet the locals, see the Punalu`u black sand beaches (where I was lucky enough to see 4 sea turtles resting on the beach), Volcanoes National Park (Kilauea and Kahuku sides),... We ended up staying almost 2 weeks, because we really loved it here. the owner, a great woman named Julia and a local community worker, manages about 14 great places to stay in Pahala, all great old plantation cottages or rooms in the big plantation house. everything is decorated with much integrity and love, and the stay comes with a...
