We loved our time at Hale Makamae. We stayed April 27&28th,2012. The gardens are beautiful and since I love flowers, I took a lot of pictures. My husband was stationed in Germany so he really enjoyed visiting with John and Petra about that area.We appreciated all the info and directions they gave us about the area and attractions. The breakfasts... More

We loved this B&B. It felt like home and the breakfast was delicious. John and Petra are so nice. We loved the personalized map and guide instructions from John. We did every activity he recommended and felt much better with his specific details at hand. Thanks for a great stay! More

I stayed in the downstairs studio, a lovely room. Everything was wonderful for me: comfortable accommodations, great breakfasts, tasteful furnishings, beautiful landscaping, and helpful advice. Relaxing visit to get away from the stateside drama in my life, with time to explore the area! More

We are a military family and we needed a time of bonding and rejuvenation after two deployments. We were not disappointed. In fact, we were taken aback by the overwhelming beauty of the surroundings at Makamae B and B. There was plenty of room for our family of four to spread out and enjoy eachother's company without being too close... More

Having never stayed at a B&B before, the Hale Makamea far exceeded our expectations in terms of the room itself and our hosts. The Lanai Suite was not merely a guest room, but rather a private suite with two spacious bedrooms, living and dining rooms, kitchen and private balcony. It was very clean, modern in appearance and well appointed, and... More

The Hale Makamea B&B is beautifully set in a lush jungle garden. The hosts are warm, lovely and very helpful if you need any advise on activities or sights in the Puna region. The breakfast is aboundend and delicious (we overate in the homemade banana pancakes) and the room was spotless (this is most definitly due to the German sense... More

My wife and I stayed at Garden Suite for 3 nights from 7Mar. It was the 1st time for us to visit B&B itself, so we were a little bit nervous. However, our worry was meaningless! The garden was beautiful and the room was so big & clean. In addition, Petra kindly guided many places to go. We enjoyed Pahoa... More

I'll break this review up into the pros and cons. First, the pros: Petra was very nice and accommodating. We never felt rushed and she provided us with a plethora of good advice and recommendations. She also let us borrow a really good map of the area and snorkeling gear which made our stay much more pleasant. Her gardens are... More

We encourage and appreciate feedback, as it is always good to know for us where we can improve. We also believe in immediate communication, if there are areas, where our guests have needs or requests, so things can be discussed and solutions be found as fast as possible. Only if we know, we can help. Towels: We change our towels... More
