Our second year for an extended stay at Volcano Hideaways. Wonderful time with wonderful hosts. Todd and Jillian could not have made our time any better. Their properties are excellently maintained, perfectly located near Volcano National Park, and nestled in a gorgeous rainforest. Interiors of the two places we have rented have been beautifully decorated, thematically centered, and well-equipped. Volcano, at 4000 ft. above sea level, can be cool at times, but well-placed gas fireplace/stove kept us warm on chilly mornings and evenings. Beds were comfortable and duvets kept us cozy. We've been to the islands several times, and few things add more to our trips than excellent accommodations and caring hosts. Thanks for being at the top of our list!

Todd and Jillian have provided a lovely 3 bedroom house with comfortable beds and duvets, 1 bedroom with ensuite and another bathroom off the corridor for the other 2 bedrooms, a lovely full kitchen, generous dining table and living room area with gas fireplace, and washer/dryer. The location is convenient to the village shops & restaurants and to the part entrance. We were very comfortable and really enjoyed having time to explore the park. This was our 3rd visit to Volcanoes and each trip has been enjoyable and full of discoveries. Thank you for a very comfortable stay.

Six years ago, we brought a friend and stayed in the Haunani Cabin. It's close to the park, and it was perfect for hiking and exploring other parts of the island. This year we returned and stayed four nights in the Maid's Quarters and one night at Io's Nest. Like children, I really can't pick a favorite! All three cottages are well-appointed and kept spotless by Jillian, our gracious host. Jillian pointed out "off the beaten path" hiking spots and excursions for us to explore. Todd helped me map out a long run I wanted to do on vacation. We were not disappointed! It's a long flight for us but so worth it to visit the Big Island and stay in Volcano Hideaways. We can't wait to plan a trip back.

A spacious house for our family of four. We enjoyed the well stocked kitchen and the owner was friendly and knowledgeable of the area. A great way to be close to the Volcano National Park and all that is on that side of the. Big Island

We stayed for five nights in the Maid's Quarters, a cute one-bedroom one-bathroom house just five minutes from Volcanoes National Park. It was clean, with everything we needed for our stay, including a full kitchen (though note that the fridge is on the smaller side). The owners were nice, and handled the one issue we experienced very well. Unfortunately, we took one star off because we found that without central heat, the wood stove heater just couldn't keep us warm enough. But, if you're not as sensitive to cold as we are, that may not be an issue.

We stayed in The Maid's Quarters in September and it was a lovely, relaxing accomodation. It provided us with a homey based from which to explore the Big Island and all it has to offer. At just a mile from Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park, we were able to view the volcano and caldera at different times of the day and evening to fully experience the wonder of Mother Nature. We were also a reasonable drive from black sand beaches, Waipi’o Valley Overlook, restaurants in Hilo, Kona Coffee Living History Farm, Hawaii Lava Boat Tours, and lava fields. The Maid's Quarters is an intimate, comfortable cottage in the restful village of Volcano, The wood-burning fireplace in the living room came in handy to ward off the evening chill. The kitchen has all the essentials necessary to prepare meals, if you so desire. Be sure to go to the Volcano Farmer's Market if you're there on Sunday. It's a perfect introduction to the local culture of this area.

We rented Oma's Hideaway, and it's truly quite a magical tropical hideaway. It's a really cosy homely space, there's a lot of attention to detail, which is lovely, and all interactions with the owner Todd were simple and super-pleasant. The upstairs bedroom loft has the most comfortable bed ever! The chalet doesn't have an outside space as such, but then again it rained the entire time we were there (it is the rainforest, after all), so we didn't miss that - other than not being able to dry the wet stuff. Volcano itself isn't a very happening place; we found it difficult to find food, so stop at a supermarket in Hilo or Kona before you come up.

We booked Oma's Hideaway and Haunani House for a 2-night stay with 8 friends. It's a perfect location, on a quiet private road, near some restaurants and groceries, and just two minutes from the National Park entrance. Todd welcomed us with lots of great information and we immediately felt at home. The owners have done superb work to make these houses comfortable and cozy. We enjoyed the gas fireplace, as it was chilly in February. Both houses are decorated with great attention to detail, and Todd has added wonderful architectural touches to Haunana. It's a bargain for these wonderful homes in the rainforest. I would not hesitate to book again.

Our family of 4 rented one of three cottages, Oma's Hideaway, for three days. Oma's Hideaway is a secluded chalet-style structure with a large downstairs bedroom (king bed), smaller second bedroom (bunk beds) and a large loft. It can sleep six comfortably. The two story high kitchen-sitting room is decorated with carved animals and is complete with full kitchen (no dishwasher), TV, DVD player, and propane heater. The place was well furnished and well-kept. The negatives were a single bathroom (shower) and absence of central heating. Volcano is about 4000 foot elevation, and nighttime temperatures were in the 40s when we visited. Take warm clothes when you visit! Todd, the proprietor, was welcoming and helpful in planning our visit. Volcano is a little over a half hour from Hilo International Airport. Food shopping in town is limited and expensive. There is a large Safeway in the Prince Kuhio shopping center a few miles from the airport on Route 11, which takes you to Volcano.

I stayed in Volcano over Merrie Monarch weekend after a previous establishment in Hilo conveniently "couldn't confirm" a reservation I had paid for five months prior, and everything was sold out for miles. I had to scramble to find a place before it was too dark, and thankfully Tom had space and was willing to accommodate me at the last minute. I stayed in the Maid's Quarters, behind the owners home, which is located just a mile from the entrance to Volcano National Park. The air up there is super crisp and clean, and Tom showed me around the place. There is a hot tub that you can use any time in the back yard, but I never got to (busy busy bee!). The whole place is spacious and decorated so lovingly. It reminded me of my moms house with all of the carefully chosen decoration and design. It has a small gas range kitchen, a personal sized refrigerator, a cute little nook, an attachment to a laundry room, one wood fireplace in the parlor, one gas range fire place in the bedroom, and the most COMFORTABLE bed I've slept in for a while. I was just swallowed up by the down comforter and pillows, which felt great on a chilly night. They have sensors on the lights, so when you come in at night you don't trip trying to find the front door to your room. And it is so quiet and peaceful out there! I couldn't thank the couple who runs this place enough-- they took what could have been a nightmare and made it a dream come true. Not just for quickly turning the room over so I could stay there, but for the obvious care that they put in the place to make their guests feel welcome.. It was simply amazing.
