I have stayed in many hostels and am not a high maintenance type of person. Read the other terrible and poor reviews and you'll get the picture. It wasn't "terrible" in my opinion but it left A LOT to be desired Biggest complaint for me was that the kitchen doesn't open till 8am. When I commented on it I was... More

I stayed at the BB with my wife for a week in April. We rented a private room ($86/night). The room was clean and well maintained. NO issues with bugs. No a/c, but this wasn't an issue as the nights were cool and there was usually a good breeze. Shared bathroom and shower were clean/working. There is a fair amount... More

The tours were amazing and if I wouldn't have gone on them then I wouldn't have gotten to see Maui in that light. All the staff was great, friendly, helpful and laid back. It was like being a part of a family for 10 days. I want to go back...I need to go back. It was unforgettable and I highly... More

Agreed that the hostel isnt the cleanest place one could stay....but if you are in Hawaii...WHAT ARE YOU DOING IN YOUR HOTEL ROOM???? Bring a sleeping bag and pillow with you and a pair of flip flops for the shower, then leave every morning on one of their free tours and don't come back in until you just can't stand... More

If this place did not have free tours I would have not stayed here! Nadine, Henry and Isaac were awesome guides! Very friendly and knowledgeable about Maui but make sure you tip them because they live on tips. I have read some old reviews before going to BB and have not experienced them. For example, the complaints about bed bugs.... More

This was the trip of a lifetime.. Maui is so BEAUTIFUL.. words don't even do it justice. The tours are unbelievable and there FREE.. The tour guides are super fun and down to earth. Wailuku is a cute little hippie town to walk around in and the people are very laid back and warm.. The hostel isn't the cleanest but... More

The daily tours are the only great thing about this hostel & the tour guides, Henry & Nadine, are AMAZING!! The tours are not really free, they depend on tips to live so I gave about $20 depending on how good the tour was. The hostel itself was far from clean, and I don't even want to get started on... Fair to say we should have taken heed of the warnings on tripadvisor before booking! If you stay here you will be sad every evening as you end another amazing day on Maui knowing you have to return to the gloom of Waikuku and Banana Bungalow. Don't do it to yourself, dirty, bad vibes in the neighborhood, cats rummaging freely... More

Not the most comfortable, not the cleanest, not for families or the feeble - but if you only have a week in Maui you will pack more into that week at the Bungalow than you will anywhere else on the island. The daily free tours are fantastic - but activities are governed by the weather and the people who happen... More

We booked our stay here for the fact that is was economical, and for the free tours. The location is fairly central, so it is great if you have a car, to drive aound the island. A rain forest is close by, and things are fairly cheap around the hostel area. The staff were very friendly, and the tours were... More
