No frills staying here except the free maps that Mario is quick to hand out because he gets them free from other sources (AAA) and then attempts to make you feel like he really cares. What he really cares about is getting your money up front, so you don't find another place to stay while your in town. Do your... More

Greatest disappointment was the loss of potential... great location, not much competition.... needs a thorough ceiling to floor scrubbing, weeding out of all not-nice nonessentials including furniture, rugs and personal type items (partially used toiletries, food, which is just tip of items laying around), and a restaging.

If you don't care about designer furniture or fancy interior design, this is the place for you. It is clean if a little bit worn. Perfect for me. Market Street is a couple blocks away. I will definitely stay here again. Mario was very accomodating. Keep up the good work.

Following a one night stay in another SF hotel, the Castillo Inn was a real luxury - your own front door and your own key so that you can come and go as you like. Mario is the most unassuming guy with a great personality and showed us round the city after collecting us from the car hire place. The... More

I stayed here in July 2006. This place is cozy and comfortable. It has 3 large rooms with big beds and one smaller room with a smaller bed. The bathroom is shared. It's not glamorous but it's the best value for money in the Castro. You won't find anything better at that price. I stayed for almost two weeks and... More

I had a weeks stay here. Never did see the owner. Lights did not work in parts of the place. The place is advertised as "breakfast provided." What this means to Mario is a cold bowl of cheap cereal. Add to that the apt. below is under construction, ie hammering ect... What we have here is a bit of a... More

Mario was really great, as was Christina. Upon arrival Mario meet me at the door to the guesthouse and took me on a tour to the highest point in the bay area (Twin Peaks). What a view! The guesthouse was fully equipted with all the comforts of home. I had full access to the complete kitchen and they both were... More
