I styed there one night with my husband in our 24h quick visit to SF . We enjoyed every minute . The location isn't great, but not many in San Francisco really are. If you can stand the riff raff outside, you will have found your spot. It leans towards the younger clientele, but the FREE Parking, Warm Pool and complimentary wi-fi can be appreciated by anyone. Don't forget to ask for your free tattoo at the check-in desk.

I love this place. It's not trying to be uber cool but from soup to nuts I recommend the Phoenix for those who are City savvy, want a great value and are seeking a pleasant check-in, clean and spacious rooms and have a hankering for a swim to help soothe those tired muscles from a night out walking the city.... We stayed here as thej first stop on a 2 week road trip. Lovely, quirky hotel with a great restaurant on site. The rooms are comfy and clean , with everything you need, and the staff are very helpful. The food and atmosphere in the restaurant is very good - especially when you've been up for more than a day... More

Stayed here for work last visit in SF. I'm familiar with The Tenderloin neighborhood and I like the location when going to both the financial district and SOMA, but have never stayed there because I've felt that it can be a little sketchy- like get dropped off at door, get picked up is the only style I've went with when... We just love this little 50's Motel....It's in the Tenderloin District....but... you walk into the gate and it's a little Oasis! Lot's of musicians and artist have stayed there, so it's pretty hip & happening. We stay here every time we come to San Francisco for a Giant's game....the next day we do a touristy thing before going home. They... More

We stayed at the Phoenix for three nights in April. We had a great reception from Mike on arrival. The other staff were also very helpful. Everwhere in San Francisco is easily accessible from the hotel. It was easy for us to get about. We did need to keep our witts about us but were used to this living in... More

Large rooms, comfortable bed, good choices on TV, friendly front desk and staff, but no air conditioning. What got me absolutely scared were the streets and corners around. At the time of my stay, I didn't know San Francisco and outside Los Angeles, had never seen such poverty in the USA. I decided on my first day in SF, of... More

A friend recommended this hotel and it was great! In the heart of the Tenderloin, it can be intimidating to those not familiar with the San Francisco landscape. The area is colorful but harmless. The rooms are clean and well appointed with attention even to the smallest details (top quality toiletries). The rooms have character (no AC) but considering its... More

We stayed one night at the Phoenix, as a crash pad for some sightseeing. I was traveling alone, with my 7yo daughter, and my 10mo daughter. Our room was plenty spacious, even with the portable crib set up. We found the staff to be very friendly and helpful. We arrived a bit too early for our room to be ready,... More
