I was in San Diego for a conference. The hotel was reasonably close to the conference site so I booked it. The hotel is right in the middle of the Gaslamp quarter. Thus, if you go to San Diego to have fun, party, and stay up late this is the place to be. However, if you go there to have... More

Fantastic location in the heart of the Gaslamp quarter, rooms dated but ok at a glance. Noticed in the daylight the next day that the bedsheets were very dirty...cheap and central but definitely worth paying a little extra to stay at Hardrock or Andaz instead. More

Location is its saving grace. Rooms are small. Air conditioning is very noisy. The elevator is a 100 years old and dangerous. More

We just needed a place to crash for the night after seeing the San Diego safari zoo. Surprisingly, the hotel is located in the busy nightlife area of gas lamp quarter! We arrived late night and parked through the hotel valet-$20/day (cheaper than parking on paid parking lots). The elevator is antique-with cage door,, it used to be the fastest... More

I was in town for a conference and stayed 5 nights at the Ramada Inn. The reviews are pretty accurate on this property. The rooms are on the small side but clean -- Tue/Wed/Thursday the hotel was pretty quiet but on Friday & Sat night the party starts in Gaslamp and it does get noisy. I had ear plugs and... More

Glittering Little Diamond in the rough! This 100 year hotel is as charming as it is unique. Its location in the heart of the buzz of the Gas Lamp Quarter is unparalleled. Very charming, with a wonderful balance of modern amenities yet true to the period. Pros & Cons - Rooms are small - but well appointed, modern furnishings (including... More

I loved the hotel. It had lots of old fashioned charm that really appealed. OK the rooms were a bit smaller than many other faceless US hotels, but that only added to the charm in my view as it represented authentic hotels how they used to be. I have to say the noise was horrendous though, despite being on 8th... More

We really enjoyed staying at this hotel when we visited San Diego. It has been purchased by Ramada, but still remains a boutique style hotel. The elevators are the original elevators for the building. They take a little getting used to - you have to open the door and then slide the gate over - but it's a fun experience.... More

Dear Guest , We're glad you enjoyed your stay. We are close to everything and even closer to Brian's 24 our restaurant off the lobby . Not your typical hotel restaurant. Judging from the lines out the door you'll see Brian's is one of the most popular restaurants in the Gaslamp. We hope to see you again very soon. Next... More

My wife and I spent 7 nights at the St. James in the Gaslamp area of San Diego. It was a fantastic experience! The hotel is done in retro elegant decor with chandeliers in the lobby and heavy carpeting and old style furniture. The old elevator is very kinky from the 1800's. It is not for those in a hurry,... Dear Guest , We're glad you enjoyed your stay. You are right , we are a charming odd boutique hotel located in the heart of the Gaslamp Quarter. Our rooms are cute, well appointed ,with flat screen TV's .Most of them are 25% smaller than your average newer hotel. We are most like a San Francisco Hotel. Our location is... More

I stayed five days at this hotel for a conference. What a mistake. The hotel is very old, with tiny rooms that are not comfortable. You almost have no blankets on the bed, certainly no comforter. The hotel is extremely noisy. I stayed there over Saint Patrick's day weekend for the convention and there was a block party outside. When... More

Dear Guest , Sorry your stay did not meet your expectations . When booking our hotel , or any hotel for that matter it's best to book using the hotel's web site . When you book using a third party and plans change or get interrupted you now find yourself having to go to that third party for refunds or... More
