This small charming hotel is on the side of a cliff overlooking the city (and all the other hotels down the road). The view from the terrace and the restaurant is beautiful. Our room and bathroom were very spacious and very clean. The staff is very attentive and the owner is very friendly (he offered us a drink and we... More

Tea Bush Hotel We had great hopes for our stay here. We were upgraded to the deluxe room, behind the office but it was disappointing. It was a cold, misty and rainy day in February and we found the room had no heating and was rather gloomy, with a navy carpet which was soiled around the doorway and two large... More

We spent 2 nights here during the high season. Lal the manager although very busy took excellent care of us. If you are planning a trip to Nuwara Eliya this is the place to go. 5 star service and views you will never forget at a reasonable price. I look forward to my next visit to the Tea Bush Hotel.

We are a mature couple in our early 70's on an 9 day tour of the Cultural Triangle and the Hill Country. We greatly enjoyed our 3 day stay at the Tea Bush Hotel and can recommend it without reservation. Mr Lal, the Manager, and his staff could not have done more make our stay a very good experience. The... More

A missed opportunity to stay somewhere else that's better value and has much more colonial charm. Great Sri Lankan dishes but not good value. Very expensive for a basic hotel that was cold and bleak on a rainy day in February. Great tasting Sri Lankan food which is good because its inconvenient to look for somewhere else especially if raining... More

This was a marvelous hotel to stay in at Nurawa Ella. Great location, fantastic views, charming decor reflecting the nature of the area and the history of tea planting. Located in the town but surrounded by tea plantation. Views over the whole town and up to the mountains surrounding. Views from the roof top garden and the restaurant are absolutely... More

Very pleasant stay where we were well taken care of from the moment we arrived. Views from dining room are fabulous and food delicious. Rooms cozy and comfortable. Good Internet . The hotel is situated at top of a steep hill with tea plantations above it.

If you expect your hotel to provide you with clean sheets, find another hotel. 11pm, just as we were about to get into bed, i pulled the sheets back and found a lot of black curly hairs. It was obvious the sheets weren't changed from the previous occupants - they just remade the bed. Tried to find management but front... More

We stayed here for two nights. It's an extremely comfy and cozy place and doesn't feel like a hotel... Its more like a guest bedroom at a fun relative's house. It's right on top of the hill and is surrounded by tea bushes.. A beautiful sigh to wake up to. Their kitchen's not bad either.

Stayed at Tea Bush for 3 nights in Dec 2012. It is the a good walk up Haddons Road. The hotel has about 10 rooms with just the basic facilities. Most of the hotels have a colonial structure and Tea Bush is no exception. Rooms are quite large. Hot water and other facilities were fine. But a change in the... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Tea Bush Hotel is a boutique type hotel of 10 comfortable rooms, situated in Nuwara-eliya, the little England of Sri Lanka. The original planter’s granite bungalow, “Shelborne”, as it was then known built in the 1800’s, where most of the hotel rooms are housed adding to the old world charm of the hotel, was the residence of the superintendent of Haddon Hill Tea Estate. All rooms are provided with hot and cold water and room heaters are optional. Ample parking space coupled with drivers’ quarters is a boon for the tour operators. The large well appointed restaurant serves delicious food for both in-house guests as well as walk-in guests. Room service is also available on request. The limited number of rooms makes every guest a special one for the hotel. The high elevation of the hotel above the town makes the view from the rooms and the restaurant of the surrounding hills, Nuwara-eliya town and the Lake Gregory to be quite breathtaking. Mt. Pedro or Pidurutalagala, the highest peak in the Island is close at hand. One could get a grand view of Adams Peak or Sri Pada, the famed holy mountain by climbing the Single Tree Hill just behind the hotel.Guests on their own may visit the Victoria Park and the Lake Gregory which are just walking distance from the hotel, while hiking trips may be arranged by the hotel to the surrounding hills. Guided day tours may be arranged on request to the Hakgala Botanical Gardens with its famed rose beds or to the Horton Plains, the National Park among the clouds at an elevation of 7000 feet, and perhaps a peep down the Worlds End, the 3000 feet sheer precipice. All this would make your stay at the Tea Bush Hotel linger in your memories for long years to come. ... more   less
