The worst is a $14.95 per day amenities fee. We stayed a week. I still don't know what the amenities are, besides a pool and small gym that are standard in most hotels. Supplies in the kitchen are a joke, the staff is unfriendly, and our living room TV stopped working 2 days before check out. We will NOT be staying here during our next trip. With the cost through my vacation club and the daily fee, it would be comparable to staying in a hotel.
The TV did not work the first couple of hours we were there. After following the instructions given by the lady at the front desk to re-boot the TV, we asked to be moved to a different room. Of course, she said they were totally booked and no other room available. Security guy told her that the maintenance guy was still at work. Once she paged maintenance he came to our room and fixed it (very nice gentleman). But that ordeal caused us to miss our dinner reservations.
The gym and pool areas were small but adequate. There are no planned activities or concierge service. A car is recommended to explore Tucson and nice restaurants.
Although Hilton Grand Vacations owns the property now, very few upgrades have occurred. Tucson Varsity Club still needs major renovations.
Another minor issue the electric stove: it's barely working. It took me close to 12 min to fry an egg, as the damn burner just keeps turning off. Or may be I am just way to used to the gas range? I don't know...
Also, you can't open the windows. So the rooms feel very stuffy, despite the AC. It's too cold if you put the a/c on, but too hot if you let just the fan working. I don't know... that A/C unit did not work properly.
Otherwise, my stay was perfect and very comfortable. Great beds - very, very comfortable. Clean sheets etc. The bathtub to die for! Last time I saw those nice deep tubs was in Europe. Towels, beds, seats, kitchen/fridge - everything was up to par. I would definetely stay here again.
Plenty of room for the two of us.
It was very convenient having a kitchen for preparing meals, or just dealing with restaurant leftovers!
