Each bungalow is divine, flowers everywhere, coconut on your arrival, nothing is too much for the staff. The sand is like flour, the food is fresh, beautifully spiced, varied and delicious. Had such a great time, wish I could stay longer, LUXURY. More

First, let me say the idea of staying at anything remotely beach resort or "all inclusive" has always sounded like torture to me. Recently a group of coworkers convinced me I needed to open my mind and try Matemwe. I have to admit, I loved it. Matemwe is a small lodge, which was fantastic. Each hut feels private and looks... we paid about $300 per night for a couple. i think we got an excellent deal, and this seemed like a great value. this included all of our meals. we didn't leave in 4 days (we had intended to travel around the island, but it was too good to leave.) pros: -excellent bungalow, right on a bluff right on the... My husband and I spent 3 nights at Matemwe Bungalows back in October 2011 and we had an AMAZING time. The Bungalows are really beautiful, very spacious, have a private deck with hammock and sofa, and unbeatable views on the ocean. The grounds are beautiful to walk through, lots of flowers and vegetation around even tough the bungalows were built... More

we stayed @ matemwe bungalows for 5 nights Nov / Dec 2011. The rooms are stunning perched on a cliff with great views across the lagoon , beach and reef island. There are only 12 so the place never gets or feels crowded. Food was varied , buffet style and service very friendly. There are 2 small swimming pools for... More

The Lodge scores high on most counts. The ambience is perfect, staff friendly, food superb. Sally, David, Moses and all the others contributed to the relaxed atmosphere, more a house party than a hotel. Unlike virtually everyone else we were not looking for post safari do-nothing chill out, we explored the village, took long walks, sailed, swam, talked to everyone... More

Amazing view, rooms, service and facilities! This could not have been any better! The food was also well chosen each day given that options outside of the resort are limited. The only slight improvement could have been in providing more local cuisine rather than western food. The one dinner that we had of BBQ seafood was the best. Breakfasts generally... More

We spent a few days in Matemwe main lodge in October 2011. The little house is really charming, all natural woods and nature tones. The bed linens are clean but stay damp troughout your stay. You can hear the ocean very well, as the houses do have an open roof. The natural airconditioning is great, but on the other hand:... More

Thank you for taking the time to write a review about your stay at Matemwe Main Lodge. We are very pleased to hear you have enjoyed your stay with us. Regarding the beach weed; the beach - like all beaches on Zanzibar - is public. But for comfort and convenience, we do sweep a portion of the beach daily (closest... More

We spent 3 nights there after a 5 days amazing safari in Tanzania, and we have been very disappointed. The rooms are dusty, the bed sheets and towels very dirty. The beach is not nice, you cant swim. The pool and the view are amazing. I dont recommend to stay there. More

Dear Amelie, Thank you for taking the time to write this review about us. We are sorry to hear some aspects of your stay could not live up to your expectations. Our service and your experience should always be right, so there is little room for excuses here. It is not acceptable that sheets and towels are dirty and therefore... More

My husband and i stayed here Jan 2011 after Safari with Asilia properties through Tanzania (Sayari camp Olakira camp etc all fantastic with different things to offer) and although my review is late i would like to contribute because Matemwe is a beautiful peaceful place that truely deserves good reviews, the poverty and lack of education around this area is...
