This hotel is in a decent location away from the strip (although i'd avoid it like the plague) The apartment was tiny for 4 19 year olds and it was not the cleanest. The pool area is absolutely fantastic as we essentially had the entire pool to ourselves. There is also a shop within 5 minutes walking distance. The owner never spoke english but you cannot fault that as we are in his country and his service was always great. Overall the hotel was enjoyable but i would never return to Malia as it is full of drunken english idiots.

Myself and two of my friends turned to a week ago to a very cold reception from poppy. The apartments are lovely and good value for money with nice grounds but we felt uncomfortable throughout our stay. We met a group of boys there who had stayed for slightly longer than us. As we are all 18 year olds finishing our exams we are bound to be going out and having fun, especially because we are in Malia. As we would pre drink quietly, Poppy and her husband would constantly come out and scream in our faces for making too much noise (which is quite ironic). Poppy would swear at us in Greek but as soon as anyone would start piping up she would go mental. She charges you €13 if you lose your keys. There are no cleaners and they do not empty the bins throughout your stay. Our sheets were never changed and we only had one new towel. Poppy’s husband was very creepy and would sit on sunbeds watching us at 6am or following us outside shouting at us in Greek. Another one of our friends later turned up and received no welcome from poppy other than her hurling abuse at us at night. As the boys left, Poppy continued to throw abuse at them, telling them to go to hell, that ‘Greek boys f*** English girls’ and that the boys ‘did not f***’ and there was mention of racist slurs. She also said she is never having English people back again which is just racist. She does not allow you to keep your bags there when you leave and have a late flight and constantly threatens to kick us out on the street. She complains about us making noise but on our second last day as our friends were leaving, she enters our room with no warning as we are asleep and begins shouting at us and the boys who were stood outside. This is inappropriate and hypocritical. The pool was flighty with a layer of grease on the top and dead bugs everywhere. She did not provide extra toilet paper when needed. We were kicked out at 12pm and we’re not allowed to leave our bags anywhere, even though our flight was not until midnight, meaning we were left to carry our suitcases around malia and had nowhere to go. There was a couple staying at the same time as us and she called them animals. Overall, Poppy and her husband are in the wrong area to be complaining about noise and acted as if they could control our activities on our holiday. They really put a downer on the holiday and had a rude manner from the minute we arrived. Would not recommend.

Despite being a very attractive lady, Poppy the host was constantly rude to me and my friends and did not make us feel welcome at any given point. We were constantly controlled and monitored by Poppy’s husband - Luigi - who would sit outside our apartments and literally stare at us for hours or shout at us when we were too loud. In addition to this, during the day time Poppy told us to not put a lilo in the pool as it would “damage” the water. We were denied of basic hygiene accessories such as bin bags and toilet paper, and she did not change our bed sheets once in the 11 days we stayed. On one occasion we were outside in our balcony and she came in and started saying that we “sleep all day and go out at nights like animals”. Other comments made by Poppy include things like cursing at us in Greek, threatening that Luigi will come and beat us up and saying that she will never let English people come back. Such a shame the hosts were so rude because the apartment was nicely located and had a large pool - which to no surprise was dirty all day. Personally I would not recommend staying at the place unless you like being watched and shouted at constantly.

From the photos, this hotel looked like a nice place to stay. However, as soon as we arrived we realised that this was not the case. Hardly any of our facilities worked and the pool was a disgrace. However, this was not the worst part of our stay. The owner, poppy was one of the rudest people we had ever met. Every night she would scream at us and call us “animals” and told us to “go to hell”. We were with another group of boys but we were being respectful and what can you expect from having a hotel in malia? We constantly felt on edge and like we were being watched. Her husband was extremely odd and would constantly spy on us and our friends. They treated us like children and tried to stop us from going out at night as if they had authority over us. Over all this was not relaxing holiday as we felt hated and uncomfortable!

The room is a lot smaller than the pictures look. There was a group of 3 of us and we were cramped in the room which claimed it had two rooms and 4 beds when really it was 1 small room and the other 2 beds were in the kitchen and they were camping beds. *Only given 1 room key between 4 people and it needs to be inserted for electricity to work. *Claimed it had 4 beds, the other two are in the kitchen. *Poppy the mother of the owner is very baggy and annoying. *Cooking facilities are inadequate and there is a tiny electric Hob. *I had stained one of the sheets and the owner tried charging me 60 euros.

Suitable for ANYONE! During our stay there were couples, friends, business and families all equally chuffed by this apartment and what it has to offer. Some of the reviews for this property though LOOOL This accommodation was allocated by Cosmos holidays but they really hit the nail on the head. I had planned a quiet trip for my mother and myself(I'm 20) we wanted to be close to civilization but still far enough to relax and Marie Melie was exactly that. Perfect location only 5 mins away from Malia strip where we often ate out at restaurants but still far enough that we couldn't hear all the noisy clubs giving us a decent nights sleep. The room itself was fairly standard, cleaned regularly throughout our stay and decorated with art the owner painted himself, Pool area always clean and relaxing perfect spot for sunbathing. Hotel owner speaks very little English but I managed to still hold decent conversations and because he lives on-site he was always around and willing to lend a hand in anything I had asked. His wife speaks very good English so there was no problem about not being understood throughout our stay. Adjacent to the pool is the owners small enclosed farm( no there wont be chickens in your bed) and I was often allowed in to look after the animals (small joys I'm very easily amused, owner even named the goat after me :')). Agriculture as expected is a primary industry so the owner has his own leather workshop and grows his own crops etc. Fair sized public grass area also. Only negative I would say is the fact there is no official reception desk. We arrived in the night and were looking for the reception when we couldn't find one met by the hotel owner who led us to a room (slightly unorganised). Oh yeah there's an act to opening the door with the key which I didn't get until 4th night, luckily Belo ( hotel owner) helped and even got me a new set of keys. Through the kind hospitable and generous nature of these owners I had one of the best holidays in a long time, so I hope you will do to.

Went on holiday last July with 3 mates all lads and love it! We were a bit worried cause of the previous reviews but none of the things said happened to us! Pretty much had the pool to yourselves everyday (only people using it was us and 3 girls)! Owner (who we called Pabs for some reason) couldn't speak English but was okay and we played music all night and drank on our balcony till Pabs came and told us to go on the strip about 1, which was fine by us! Bar was cheap! Overall was a good place to stay! I would advice buying air conditioning for your stay as we didn't and our room was ridiculously hot! Haha

When we arrived we were all slightly nervous due to some terrible reviews on the internet, and it was late at night when we arrived, the greek couple were slightly confused at our arrival. The woman, Poppy, told us very fairly that we were not allowed to blast music all day and night and we get 3 warnings and we'd be thrown out. well there was a group of 6 of us and we loved our hotel so much, we never had to fight for sun beds, it was clean enough, the pool bar was cheap the couple are lovely as long as you behave, dont forget it is their home! they allowed our friends staying at a hotel down the road to come in the day time (they were in a 4 star and agreed that ours was worth paying less for) so if you are going, you have nothing to worry about! great location, great pool, great gardens, great hotel!

Okay well the hotel from outside looks alright, however once you discover how to use your nose you will soon find out that the whole hotel stinks of cow poo. On a number of times i had found dead insects in my food, and the bottled water that he sold was clearly not fresh. We walked into our room one day to find a chicken doing a [--] on my bed which had walked in through the door (which could not be locked at nights, which is highly unsafe), and we were then fined from having the stains on the sheets. Along with this on arrival we had found finger nail trimmings left in both the sink and on the kitchen tables. The man could not speak a word of english and we saw him one time urinating up the side of a car outside the hotel. When he speaks to you he spits in your face, although he doesn't mean to. There is a large amount of broken glass on the grass which was very dangerous. At the bottem of the pool we found what looked to be a dirty food plate from the bar, and it had remained there for a good couple of days. He also decideds to let himself in and out of your room when ever he feels like it, and one time walked in when i was butt naked and started laughing and pointing at me. The only good thing about this hotel is that there are no stray dogs near it, as the owner shoots any that comes near. NEVER EVER STAY HERE !!! SERIOUSLY !

Do not stay here, I warn you now, it is the most awful place to stay. The owner and his wife speak no English, they will not speak to you at all apart from when shouting at you to get out because it is 10 o'clock, where is anybody meant to go at that time of night. During our stay our apartment got burgled, 500 euros was stolen and phones and ipods ect. The worst bit was I was punched and knocked down when confronting the burglar who had just woken up one of my friends in another room. How the burglar got in, master keys, the windows were locked and no keys were left around. The owner was most definately something to do with this robbery as he only went to the rooms without safes, which only the owner would know. As soon as the burglar had ran off, the owner 'George' walked round the corner, he did not seem to care what so ever and just told us to go back to bed, even though I had just been punched and the girls were crying in shock. He had no respect for any of us and even threatened to kick us out that night. He is the weirdest person in the world, the night after this robbery I was too scared to go back until the morning, so i went home at 530AM and i was just about to walk in the front gate, when i heard rustling in the bush the other side of the road, i waited a few minutes and from the bush he walked out just like it was a normal thing. I advise you all not to go here, it is not good.
