Amazing old hotel, very nice room in a great location. We found this a convenient base to do some walking in Tongariro National Park and I would recommend it to others. Staff were friendly but there was a bit of a formal feel to the place. For example you needed to be properly attired to eat in the dining-room. We... More

For the second time we spent two nights at The Chateau and both times got a superb view from our bedroom of Mt Ngaruahoe. This time we used a Grab-One voucher which we found to be good value. The bedroom was very nice as was the buffet breakfast and dinner. We will go again and would recommend this hotel to... More

We went for the 2 night special , and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We had a room in the new wing, built 2007 , and it may be worthwhile asking for that if you want modern bathrooms . But the huge public rooms are amazing , straight out of an Agatha Christie novel and well equpped with open fires, , cozy... More

For the second time in the past few years. we have recently stayed at the Chateau again. We went with friends to celebrate a special occasion and enjoyed every minute. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. They were always there to help us with anything, and drinks and coffee would just appear without any fuss, when requested. There... More

There's no argument that the views around the Chateau are stunning, and the building itself is a really characterful gem. The decor in the main lounge area, for example, is plush, decadent and old-wordly, with breathtaking views of the volcano through the windows. The reception staff were friendly and helpful, and the Standard Room was clean and perfectly adequate (if... More

We stayed here on a two-night package and had a lovely time - we didn't want to leave! While the Chateau isn't a five-star hotel with five-star service by any means, it combines the feel of a boutique hotel with its original art deco elegance. We spent much of our stay reading and relaxing in the lounge, with its comfy... More

Unfortunately we were only here for 1 night, breaking the train journey from Auckland to Wellington. We were met at the station & driven along a very scenic route to the hotel, which stood alone in the splendour of the Tongariro National Park. Everything about it cried luxury & our room was amazing. A large bedroom/sitting area with the usual... More

By booking at the "Chateau" we were expecting an nice experience. Our ridiculously priced room was way off in a back extension with a view of the roof. The restaurant would not accept us dressed with sandals - we are at a hiking and skiing location(!) Our rooms were with breakfast included and it was absolutely disgusting. Bacon and scrambled... Dear Janice Thank you for your feedback with regards to your recent stay at Chateau Tongariro. I am sorry that you were disappointed with your stay. We do review our breakfast selection on a regular basis and providing grain bread is definitely an option and we will put this in place. We do have cereals, fruit and other continental options... Attracted by the publicity we decided to have High Tea at the Chateau. As we were staying in Turangi it was but a 30 minute drive to the mountain. Whilst there we took the opportunity to go to the Top of the Bruce carpark for a look see. If anyone wants to see what a desolate moonsscape or the land... More

Thank you for your comments regarding our High Tea at Chateau Tongariro. I am sorry that you were disappointed during your visit. We are in the process of reviewing our High Tea menu selection. It is definitely a more traditional offering. Having tea in a china tea pot is most definitely preferable and we have some more pots on the... More

The Chateau Tongariro was a special experience for my wife and me. We stayed two nights, booked the sentimental journey as dignified ending of our NZ journey. We have stayed in many chateaux in Europe, we know that Chateau Tongariro is on a different level, but we made so many experience you wish not to during a sentimental journey. Starting... More

Thank you for your comments with regards to your recent stay. I am sorry that the standards were below your expectations. Service is critical in our industry and I am disappointed that it fell short for you on this visit. I have discussed this with our staff and we will reiterate this in our future and on going training. Our... More
