Thoroughly enjoyed our one night stay as we pottered round the moors. Spotlessly clean, comfortable rooms, lots of little extras - including a slice of homemade lemon drizzle cake on arrival! An easy stroll down to The Feathers for some decent pub food and a couple of beers, and a cracking full English breakfast next day at No. 54, mean... More

My boyfriend and I visited Helmsley for a wedding and booked in at No. 54 for 2 nights. Often when staying at a b&b, you feel like a guest in a strangers home and conscious of noise etc, especially as the bedrooms are within the main residence. We loved 54 as the bedrooms are away from the main house, in... More

First of all, don’t be put off by the facade; whilst the premises front the main road (‘Bondgate’), the three bedrooms are away round the back, all on ground level, and stand around a patio/courtyard, which can be a right suntrap at times. Each room is accessed via French Doors, which open onto the ‘patio’. Similarly, whilst there may not... More

I had heard some very good reports about no 54 and was doing business in the area so decided to give it a try. Well I certainly was not dissapointed - and what a host Lizzie is. A lovely welcome and the fact the rooms are out the back makes it very peaceful, yet at the same a stones throw... More

Wonderful host, well appointed rooms, nice little touches and delicious breakfast. Only gripe was twin beds pushed together as a double - a personal annoyance. Overall a really nice B&B and indeed recommended, but in my humble opinion, overpriced.

Dear Tom Thank you for your comments about your stay at No54. The 'twin' beds are actually a system called zip and link which is commonly used in hotels, B&Bs, guesthouses all over the world - sometimes you can notice other times not. I shall search for a thicker 'topper' so that any feeling of twin beds pushed together is... More

Spent the weekend in Helmsley for our wedding anniversary and a pre Xmas family get together. Recommended 54 by a relative and couldn't have been more pleased. Welcome, and hospitality of a standard rarely seen in this country. Lizzie could not have done more for us to make our stay memorable. Needed a long walk around Duncomb Park to walk... More

Lovely welcome from Lizzie and of course Ruby the Cairn Terrier. We stayed at 54 because we were attending a wedding at the very old MInster. The three rooms are better than one might expect and the breakfast is not to be missed. Arrival is not before late afternoon so there will be time to look around the main square... More

We stayed for two nights as we were attending a wedding nearby. Owner Lizzie was very friendly from the moment we called to make our enquiry and continued to be so throughout our stay. We weren't sure what to expect but were full of smiles as we were greeted by lovely and well behaved Westie, Ruby and then shown to... More

The accommodation is excellent: comfortable with thoughtful little touches (cotton wool pads and good toiletries in the bathroom, good range of magazines, wine glasses available etc). The breakfast was truly wonderful with a phenomenal choice. The range of cooked breakfasts displayed on the noticeboard was inspired and the results were delicious. Veggies are sometimes sidelined in the cooked breakfast stakes... More
