My husband and I have stayed here 3 times as repeat customers. Our first was to escape the earthquakes in Christchurch with a romantic weekend away in Hanmer. We stayed for two nights enjoyed the pools and took advantage of the free bike hire for 2 night stays. We had an absolute blast racing through the forest on bikes, my... More

I'll start with the pro's - It's very cheap- that's the plus. It was only $24 a night when we booked, which in comparison to other Nz and Hanmer campsites is very cheap, about $10 lower. The facilities are clean, toilet and shower was fine, although the hot water did keep going off, but nothing major. They also had a... More

We booked "The Smithy" a 1930's built building for the local farrier, and that's the good bit. There were high winds when we arrived and unfortunately no power, when we went to the office to find out if it was a power cut or no power to the building, no one came to the office. When the wind blew the... More

We stayed one night in the campground, glad we didn't book longer as I would have been requesting a refund! If you arrive after sunset, forget about it - there's no lighting, and it's pitch black. The campground is basically a muddy grass field that you set up wherever you like. The Communal bathroom facilities looked like they haven't been... More

Booked a Kitchen Cabin for 2 nights, as soon as we saw it we decided we needed to find another place to stay! Run down cabin, double sofa bed that did not stay flat, window did not close properly (being the end of April it didn't help to keep warm!), VERY thin matrasses and dirty furniture. To top it all... My 9 year old walked into the Smithy and declared it "crappy". I would have growled - but it was a perfect description. It was advertised as "rustic" but this is taking the rustic too far - and not proportional with it's price. I don't mind staying in budget camp ground cabins - but I don't expect to pay $140... More
