I've just spent 2 weeks at Home Stay Strand. No need to say that it was a very happy time as always. I still remember the fist time I came to stay at this place , 27 years ago. It was like discovering a lost world. Time after time over the years I stay in the same room. Though the... More

Home stay strand was the place were we started our honeymoon in Sri Lanka, and since the first email, the owner Asoka was Awesome! He helped us with any of our questions and even arranged a pick up from the air port for us. The breakfast and the room were amazing, the people working there were great and very very... More

Our 4 nights at the strand were a perfect escape from the overdeveloped and touristy nature if unawatuna. The staff were excellent, our room (the nest) was absolutely perfect! We really loved every minute of our stay. Our only small gripes were that breakfast, while yummy, was very simple and for the price of the room (even without a/c) we... More

Thank you for your review it helps others find gr8 places to stay like you did and enjoyed. We are happy that the sandy beach has been restored in Unawatuna thanks to conservation efforts of the Tourism Ministry. Sorry about the brekkie~some times fresh fruit availability is low specially in the off season. More

Mr. Asoka and his wife Hilda who own the place are such a lovely friendly couple. They also have many interesting stories e.g. about the tsunami. I really felt like home in this beautiful old colonial style house. It is such a comfortable and quite place, perfect to relax. The only sound you can hear is the ocean, the birds... More

This was my 4th visit to Unawatuna and "The Strand" (in 10 years) and while Unawatuna seems to be changing at the rate of knots (far more commercialised) I'm pleased to see that "The Strand" remains a comfortable and quiet place to relax. I stayed in the room called "The Nest" and it's lovely - it has a wonderful L... More

Mr Asoke is a lovely friendly man who own's and runs the house. Has lots of interesting stories and is very friendly helpful person. House is a large old elegant charming affair surrounded by the jungle - monkeys jump from tree to tree in the morning whilst having breakfast. Unawatuna is a bit of a touristy, busy beach but this... Unawatuna gets more and more busy with tourism so we were so happy to find a peaceful place at strand homestay for 2 nights. After two nights in moderate accommodation in Colombo, we didn't know what to expect when we arrived at Asoka's elegant home stay. The freshly swept entrance and warm welcome assured us that the reviews were not overstated. We stayed in the blue room, whilst more basic than the rest of the rooms, it was clean and homely, a pleasure to... More

We had a really nice time at Strand over Christmas. Any slight reservations listed below should not detract from the fact that this is a great place to stay, and that we thoroughly recommend it. Our room, 'the blue room' was delightfully set out, and all in blue as you might expect. However, arriving after a six hour tuk tuk... More

Thank you for your nice words about our home. Monkeys dislodge terra-cotta tiles on the roof often and we find out only when it rains. Sorry about that inconvenience. More
