I have stayed at the lazy duck twice as a base for snowsports at Cairngorms. The hostel is peaceful, superbly maintained (there was ten years between the two visits and the place shows no signs of wear), well equipped kitchen and the perfect place for some post boarding beers in front of the fire (inside or out). Have visited with... More

I couldnt speak more highly of my stay at the lazy duck from 1st - 3rd of September 2011 and have already recommended to friends and family. I have stayed in plenty of hostels before and this is without doubt my favourite to date. From the moment you go through the gate you're greeted with ducks, goats and pine forrest.... More

Spent a great couple of nights camping here. Surroundings were pretty nice too. The local pub was only a 15 minute walk which meant that we could enjoy a couple of pints before settling for the night. I would warn campers coming for a chilled out, relaxing break to be prepared to follow a lengthy amount of rules, some of... More

This is a valuable and courteous review albeit being directed towards the Lazy Duck Hostel. Really it should be on Trip Advisor's Lazy Duck Campsite page but never mind, the same principles apply and it invites a similarly courteous response. What the reviewer calls 'rules' we refer in our pre visit postings to as 'arrangements' and for good reason. The... More

We took Lazy Duck Hostel as a private rental. It was bliss! A really cosy, wood-built mountain-hut style place with lots of charm. Lots of visitors - ducks, other birds, Jango the dog and many squirrels. A fantastic base for exploring the Cairngorms and great to come back to the woodburner and covered garden at the end of the day... More

I stayed at the Lazy duck Hostel for two nights in April 2011 with 5 other family members. The hostel itself is wonderfully quirky with little windows by each bunk and a wood burning stove with plentiful supply of wood. David & Valerie were very hospitable to show us the ropes and if we needed anything. Combined with beautiful views... More

Had a great couple of nights at the Lazy Duck. The sleeping arrangements were quirky as they reminded me of childhood ascents to treehouses. The log burning stove provided much needed heat for the rural Scotish setting; perfect for a family meal freshly cooked on the outside BBQ. In addition, David and Valerie were the friendliest hosts I've ever met.... More

I stayed at the Lazy Duck hostel for three nights with a group of friends. Two others were also booked in and we were a little wary of sharing such a small place with two strangers but we came away as good friends and we had a great time sharing the place with them. There's a chilled and laid back... More

Absolutely brilliant place to spend a couple of nights. Extremely quiet and laid back. Beautiful location with everything you could possibly need (cutlery, stove, bedding, warmth, etc!). The bush shower, log burner, sheltered outdoor BBQ and sauna are great additions to make this hostel a perfect retreat for a quiet break. David and Valery are great hosts, who made us... More

My fiance and I stayed at the Lazy Duck for the second time in as many years in October and as usual we left happy, contented and relaxed. The Lazy Duck is ideal as a place to base yourself when in the Highlands for activities, or just as a relaxing getaway for a few days away from the complexities of... More

Having never done the hostel thing and being more mature in age we did not know what to expect for our first stay in a hostel. But we needn't have worried. The Lazy Duck was perfect. With stunning views and a warm welcoming feel it had everything we needed for a relaxed cosy stay. From the woodburner in the communal... More
