We were a bit worried about this hotel due to some of the reviews on here, but it was really good. Due to rough weather on the ferry crossing we were late and arrived after the restaurant was due to close. However, the exceptionally friendly staff on reception arranged for the kitchens to stay open a bit later so we... More

As a returning guest it pleases me to say The Isle of Barra hotel just keeps getting better. Came for my yearly chill out and was pleased to be offered one of the refurbished room ( at no extra cost) which has a lovely make over, stunning sea views and a new bathroom. The shower was powerful with plenty of... More

Very welcoming when you first arrive, although the person who greets you does not know when the bar opens for meals. Also don't come for breakfast at 0730hrs because we will be busy with a bus party! In bar at night asked at 1930 hrs if we would be wanting anything else as the girl wished to make our bill... More

This hotel is surviving purely on the strength of its location which is fabulous. There was an excellent waiter and waitress serving in the restaurant. There ends the good news. This was the most expensive stay of our 15 day holiday in the Outer Hebrides and the only stay that we felt gave poor value. The room is refurbished but... More

Stayed for one night at the Isle of Barra Beach Hotel. We had planned to camp but looking at the weather forecast decided that the hotel would be a better option. I love Tangasdale beach and have camped beside it on a number of occasions in the past. Staying at the Isle of Barra Beach Hotel was a very pleasurable... More

Due to circumstances beyond our control we were later arriving at the hotel, and local bus operator was superb in salvaging a difficult transport situation. We received a pleasant welcome and allocated our room keys. The hotel had arranged dinner for us allowing for our delayed arrival. So far so good, the waiting staff in the lovely restaurant were excellent... More

Dear FraserDown Island life depends on ferry and flight arrival and as such we are experienced in dealing with delays due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances. However we empathise with your unexpected and disrupted travel experience which was clear to see and hear on your arrival with us. We are nonetheless delighted to read that you enjoyed the friendly... More

We were somewhat wary about staying here, having read the reviews, but accommodation on Barra at short notice was hard to come by. Turned out okay. Friendly staff, nice (though not luxurious) room which was clean, reasonable food. Not the Savoy or the Ritz, but good value for money.

The setting is superb, and would be frighteningly majestic in a Westerly gale on a big spring tide. The time to be here is in an Easterly (offshore) wind-as we were- which gives sheltered seas and great beaches to wander over. The sea is unnaturally warm at this latitude due to the influence of the Gulf Stream, so bathing is... More

I had a lovely stay at the Isle of Barra Beach hotel. I really enjoyed myself. I stayed in the begining of September, and as soon as I arrived everything was fantastic! We sat down for dinner, and you are looking out into the atlantic ocean, the views were outstanding, it was just wonderful. From the reception staff, bar and... More
