This really is a home from home with superb hospitality, great breakfasts, home baking and local advice on what to do and see. My twin room had lovely views across castlebay to Vatarsay beach. The buses leave from the bay which is a 3-4 minute walk and there is a surprisingly good service for getting around the islands or connecting... More

Just had a 4 night stay with Doreen and Donald and I cannot recommend them highly enough. The standard of accomodation was excellent and the hospitality and friendliness of our hosts made our stay in the beautiful island of Barra one to remember and most definately to be repeated More

My friend and I spent 4 nights here B&B, the food and hospitality were second to none, and Doreens home baking is just great, as I am Coeliac I took my own flour and she made me amazing cakes, on the night we arrived off the ferry the weather was pretty wet and her husband Donald came looking for us... If you are arriving off the ferry at 9 at night in the dark you don't want to have to hunt for somewhere to stay. Look no further, the Hillside is perfect - less than 5 minutes from the ferry overlooking the bay. We were welcomed at the doorstep by Doreen who must have been looking out for us. After... More

We have now stayed at the Hillside Cottage on 4 occasions and words cannot describe how amazing Barra is, with Doreen and Donald providing a first class self catering cottage. The cottage is in excellent condition with everything you could wish for, including the fresh made cake on arrival. Doreen and Donald do everthing to make the visit memorable and... More

We stayed here for two nights at the end of a fantastic trip through the outer Hebrides. The room was fine and we got welcomed with some homemade cake as we did wherever we went on the outer Hebrides. The cooked breakfast was good. The location was fine and it was very quiet at night which is probably the case... More

Stayed for 3 nights and the location was ideal for arriving on the later ferry. Lovely views from breakfast room. A really nice touch with Doreen leaving home baking in your room when you return each day. Great sandwiches from the Toffee shop just round from Castlebay much more superior than any prepacked nonsense from supermarkets. Doreen also has a... More

Rooms are very clean and home baking is provided in room daily. Some of the rooms aren't ensuite but the shared bathroom is very clean and a good size. Breakfast is good and Doreen is a natural host. Everything feels very efficiently run and organised. More

We were lucky enough to stay with Doreen and Donald during this year's Barrafest. Their hospitality is second to none. Doreen does a smashing breakfast and lovely home baking and the relaxed atmosphere just makes the stay top class. More

Our 1st trip to the Outer Hebrides and we had the great fortune of staying with Doreen and Donald for 2 nights. Doreen clearly knows her stuff but it was the completely natural and unaffected welcome when we arrived that set the tone. Use of our 1st names as if we were welcome friends just set us at ease and... More
