My son and I had a really good all round experience at Rathan House. Comfy, clean and quiet rooms with a lovely back garden. Breakfasts were an event with a great choice of menu. The location was excellent for travelling into Edinburgh with the added bonus of a regular bus into the city only minutes walk away from the house.... More

We stayed here for 3 nights round about New Year. Comfortable and quiet room, good view overlooking big back garden, wide range of breakfasts, individually cooked, friendly and helpful owners, off-road parking: what more could you ask for?! More

We spent three nights at the Eskbank. The room was large with a wonderful view across the garden, and most importantly it was very quiet. The facilities were good, with nothing missing. Breakfast was a highlight with a good selection of traditional Scottish dishes on offer. Both Ewan and Irene were very pleasant hosts, with Ewan adding a touch of... More

We enjoyed our stay in Eskbank. It was convenient for Edinburgh and the tourist attractions of Midlothian, such as the mining museum. As others have said, the breakfasts were imaginative and delicious and the beds were comfortable. Our room looked out onto the lovely large garden. More

Room very comfortable overlooking a lovely garden, and with all mod cons. Breakfasts not only well cooked, but well presented, and the menu was an exploration into Scottish tradition. It was akin to a house party at breakfast, an event to look forward to at the start of each day. Ewan and Irene were very attentive and entertaining, creating a... More

We set out to try to make Breakfast good fun - It does not always work - but even if it is just having guests swap stories and watching the cultural mix ....it is great for us as hosts. It is really pleasing when guests see what we are trying to do, enjoy it, appreciate it and say kind things.... More

Thank you so much for a wonderful stay . We had a beautiful spacious family room with 2 sets of double doors onto a wonderful walled garden. Our 2 dogs were welcomed and allowed to run in the garden. What joy to walk out into the early morning dew and watch my 2 dogs romp on the grass safely. The... More

Globally, we liked this place comparing with all we stayed at during our 3 weeks holiday in scotland. We have done over 10 hotels/B&B. We stayed in a family room very spacious on the ground floor with an access to the back garden. My two children loved it as they could play with the 2 dogs that belong to the... More
