We only got to stay one night here as they were booked up, but we enjoyed it thoroughly. The young man running the place does a very good job - he's very helpful and hard working - seemed to be there 24/7 from what we could tell. We visited in January 2012, so it wasn't quite so bad heat-wise, but... More

First of all, I apologize for the tardy review. We stayed at Cerros Lodge in late January, 2011. We spent 3 weeks driving Costa Rica, concentrating on the birding areas we had missed on our other 2 visits. Our favorite lodges were the Trogon Lodge, Hacienda Baru, and Cerros...opinions based on the birds, the staff, and the ambiance. We saved... More

Upon arrival, I was struck w the beauty of the grounds and the situation of the cabins. Scarlet macaws and various parrolets were constantly flying-over. I really wanted to love this place, I tried. If you do not mind very hot (temperature!) accomodations, you'll be fine. I was just too hot my entire visit, even sleeping w the front door... More

My only complaint is that I didn't have more time to spend at this lovely spot. It's close to Carara National Park, which is one of the greatest wildlife-watching places I've ever been to. The lodge is just the right level of comfortable. It still feels authentic, but everything is really pretty, the food is great and they have everything... More

Our stay here had ups and downs but this is not a spot we would return to. The cabinas are poorly designed so that there is no cross ventilation - very important since they are not air conditioned and this is a HOT area. Ceiling fans were not up to the task of cooling the space. Guests had to resort... More

My girlfriend and I went on a three week birdwatching trip to Costa Rica and this was our fifth stop. From my own experience and the experiences shared by others, if you're coming to the Tarcoles/Carara NP area for birdwatching (and possibly other outdoor experiences), this is absolutely your spot. The lodge is set on a hill (thus the name)... More

During 2008 I wrote the first TripAdvisor review of Cerro Lodge. I was impressed with Federico Ferraro's accomplishment then, and yet when we visited again in February 2012 I was struck by just how much more he had done while still retaining the essential qualities that make Cerro Lodge such an enjoyable destination. In 2008 he had four bungalows; today... More

We just returned from 2 weeks in Costa Rica, most of it on the Osa and in the southern zone. In order to be closer to the airport, we stayed the last 2 nights at the Cerro Lodge. What a peaceful and lovely place this is, with great food, bird watching and an exceptionally friendly staff. Everyone made us feel... More

This was one of my favorite places on my trip to Costa Rica in Feb. It feels remote and peaceful. The lounge area/deck/restaurant is very nice and relaxing. I could spend all day there. Lot of birds around including scarlet macaws once in a while. Very nice and friendly people. Gonzalo was awesome. Great food and coffee too. Loved the... More
