Must be familiar with French roads but hidden away and worth the effort. Wonderful accomdations and spotlessly clean. Delightful traditional French dinner simply served with pleasing table settings. Too cool for sn evening outside but would be a fabulous summer evening getaway. More

The owner’s personal touch makes this place comfortable and charming. It has a nice landscaped garden, with a beautiful sun-deck, with a great view over the surroundings. Well located for exploring the Chartreuse region. More

Wonderful food and attention to detail in beautiful surroundings. Evening meal was well worth it and if we had the chance to return it would be for longer. More

Stayed for 8 nights, and enjoyed the tranquil location for hiking and relaxing. Service was always very friendly and personalized - and with attention to detail. If you really want to relax and avoid the search for a restaurant each night, also experience the table d'hôte - definitely worthwhile. More

The rooms were very clean and the decor thoughtful. Jean-Pierre works hard yet has time to guide you to activities in charming Chartreuse area. Flower filled hikes are right out the back door and the hotel sites on a quiet road above the town. All of the guests wished the had scheduled longer stays. Note to hikers- A good full... More

We arrived not in the best of circumstances as I had been taken ill. However, I was soon up on my feet and able to enjoy the special ambience found at Le ValOmbre. We immediately extended our stay from two to three days and were rewarded by not only excellent company over three nights but excellent food and great hospitality.... More

I normally don’t write reviews but my husband and I spent a such a nice few days here last weekend I felt compelled. First, we very much like our food and was thoroughly impressed by Jean Pierre’s absolutely gorgeous dinner and breakfast. The meals were so well prepared (down to the homemade yogurt in the morning) and we loved our... More

This was our first experience of a chambre des hotes and we had a wonderful time. Jean-Pierre was charming and kind, cooking wonderful meals and providing a huge and sumptuous, yet healthy, breakfast. The restored barn is a delightful space, filled with light, modern design and traditional touches. We visited in the winter when the trees and garden were bare,... More

When you travel lot... the only thing you are looking for at the end of the journey is to fill at home. Val Ombre is exactly the place to go in that case. Because it offers much more than a place to stay. Unique hospitality, generosity, delicious and inventive cuisine, also a wonderful situation in the very secluded heart of... More

La Chartreuse is an interesting part of France, and Le ValOmbre is a great place to explore this area from. Jean-Pierre the owner and chef was charming and the food both nights we stayed was excellent, with all special dietary requests catered for (not always so easy in France!). This was a great experience, dining with other guests and the... More
