In the past 17 years, we've been on many great vacations to Hawaii, the Caribbean, Riviera Maya, many cruises, etc. So we have high expectations. And Secrets Marquis exceeded our expectations. We think the #1 best thing at Secrets ..."is their service -- friendly and willing to go the extra mile. And we were very pleasantly surprised that the food and drinks were so good. We even liked the food better than the food at Capella Pedregal, where we stayed about a year and a half ago (well, except for Farallon, which is in a league of its own, but you have to pay a lot for it too!). We had an oceanfront room on the fifth floor, so the view was gorgeous. The room is pretty. Now if they could just make the bathroom a little more private, it would be perfect. :-) We never had any trouble getting lounge chairs by the infinity pools.   "My first visit to a Mayan resort, but certainly won't be my last! The Grand Mayan is upscale and elegant but somehow casual at the same time. You'll feel comfortable (as I did) wandering about barefoot. The hotel is a huge horseshoe shape facing the ocean. Unfortunately, the sea is freezing (a..."lthough the beach is beautiful), but that doesn't really matter: the Mayan pool is huge, beautifully designed, and heated to a pleasant temp. Like the Mexican people in general, the staff is warm and friendly. Elvia, the maid, cheerfully put up with my fractured Spanish and kept the room immaculate. I've got to have my morning coffee and, although I wouldn't recommend a morning pot from room service (at $16 a pop), we had a suite with an adequately stocked kitchen. And when our coffee brewer broke, it was replaced within 5 minutes of our call. We generally cooked breakfast and lunch in the room with dinner out.
