We formerly used the old County Hotel, which is even more central, though harder to access by car, but this has now been taken-over by aBode, which seems to have replaced fading glory with pretension. Management at The Falstaff seemed invisible, but the star of the show is Receptionist Anna, whose ability to multi-task and look after guests' requirements is superb.   "We stayed recently at Harriet House. I think the owners of this B & B have thought really carefully about how to make their establishment that bit special. The place was scrupulously clean. The bedroom was small but perfectly adequate, with a lovely bathroom with beautiful smelling toiletries. Br..."eakfasts were delicious and plentiful. It was really useful having details about where to eat locally in the information folder in our room. If I have to find one fault it is that we had to book a time for breakfast for the following day - we found this a bit restricting - sometimes we would have liked a little longer in bed, other times we were ready to have breakfast earlier than we had booked it for.   "Dropped in at the Millers Arms on the way back from the continent. The room we were initially given was above the bar and there was some noise from the beer cooling equipment immediately below. I asked if we could be moved to a quieter room and this was done without any problem at all. The manager ..."was most helpful and anxious that our stay should be perfect. Our 'new' room was very comfortable with a large clean bathroom, plenty of towels and toileteries. We ate in the restaurant which had a set menu of starters and about eight main courses. There was a 'todays special' board as well. Being a pub there was a good range of beers and some decent wines. Both food and drinks were reasonably priced - good pub food. This is an old building with its own character. Narrow corridors and creaky floorboards add too the charm although it is looking a little 'worn' in places but nevertheless cosy and comfortable The manager said it was due for refurbishment later this year which can only make it...
