The first two days in the central part of the mainland provided a great opportunity to visit the Tropical Education Center (TEC) and the Belize Zoo, and to visit and river tube through one of the cave systems, and see the central/south jungle and agricultural areas en-route to Dangriga by van, and then departing by boat for Glovers Reef. The Belize Zoo is more of a wildlife refuge / natural reserve than a "zoo", and the quality of the habitats and the care and commitment of the staff is exceptional. The cabins, restrooms, and showers were very very cl..."ean, and much nicer then I expected. The diving is completely amazing! Dove w turtles, baracuda, nurse sharks, stingray, lion fish, parrot fish, scorpion fish, and many, many more. The cabin was right on the water, and I totally loved being lulled to sleep by the sound of the waves. Lucy and Gerrish are wonderful hosts. The staff is always helpful. If you want to be totally comfortable, and enjoy your trip, be properly prepared! READ everything that they send! They took the time to write it for a reason. And, diet before you go, because you will gain at least 5 pounds. All food is prepared from scratch, and is incredibly delicious. I would go back, just to eat the food!!! " More >

  "Beautiful, rustic: an island adventure"
  "We went at the start of April, with my two boys, 8 and 10. The island is beautiful, turquoise waters surrounding it, cute little bungalows over the water. There's also the option of beach huts and a dorm room. We were in one of the over the water bungalows. It was roomy: a double bed and set of ..."bunk beds. Had a propane cooktop, table and chairs, a couple hammocks, and an outer porch. Well equipped with dishware. Nurse sharks and rays would swim around our bungalow, it was great! We found the staff to be friendly and welcoming. Wi-fi is available for a fee in the main restaurant, and you can also recharge whatever stuff you need to (they have a generator running there, the rest of the island is no electricity). Twice weekly, you could purchase fresh baked banana bread and french bread, which was a nice treat. It isn't the ideal vacation for everyone.
