  "We spent a week at the Cardoso recently and found the staff helpful and friendly, the room clean and well appointed, the internet good (and free), and the breakfast plentiful and tasty. (A fuller menu for room service would be nice though). We walked west out the door and saw a bit of old Maputo -- ..."pretty grotty and dilapidated but lively -- and to the east as far as the Polana hotel -- which was a more pleasant walk. The city has improved a lot since the 1990s, except for the rubbish everywhere. What ever happened to Frelimo's regular neighbourhood clean-ups? It was too cold to use the pool, so in-hotel exercise meant using the gym. Sorry to say it's a tiny dungeon smelling of disinfectant and with incomplete and broken machines. They told us they are building a new gym as soon as they complete their bathroom-rebuilding project....
