  "Having read many previous reviews, this hotel was actually much better than I expected. The rooms were very spacious, a little dated but not tatty, with a great view out over the airport runway and apron - this could be noisy on occasions but it made for interesting viewing. We had rooms 3107 and 3109 – there was a little balcony outside, where we stored drinks etc, as the fridge in the room did not appear to work. The heating was hard to control - we had to fiddle a lot with the controls to prevent the room from becoming either an oven or a fridge - but I am sure the friendly, super-efficient handyman would help you if you had difficulty with this issue. The staff were very helpful – my husband’s laptop had a hard disk problem but the aforementioned hotel handyman lent us some small screwdrivers and my husband managed to repair it and he was very grateful for the tool loan.   "We stayed at this lodge for four nights from 7 to 11 March 2013. The staff are welcoming and speak good English. As others have said, the lodge is a cut above hostel style accommodation, converted from former air base buildings. The lodge is very warm and there is always plenty of hot water. Roo..."ms appear to be single or twin individual rooms and are of a good size, but of course, the facilities are shared - there are plenty of WCs, but only two showers in the main block. As in Denmark, the single beds seem quite narrow, but are perfectly comfortable and the bedding is warm. I'd recommend you don't tamper with the radiator settings - just be grateful for the heat to dry your clothes etc. Breakfast is a buffet style served in the common room and consists of three types of cereals, bread/rolls, Danish hard cheese, butter, jam (preserves), honey and nutella, fruit juices, coffee and hot water for a selection of teas. As the other reviewers have said, this is a converted ex-US military base which is plonked in the middle of the wilderness. I was with friends, but I had a single room which was perfect for my needs – a bed, table and wardrobe. The bathroom was across the hall – one shower between around 8 people so you needed to form a plan of attack, but everyone gets their turn. It was very warm at night so no need to worry about being cold. There is a kitchen for you to cook in and store your food if you so wish. If you’re vegetarian the dining out options are very limited so you might want to bring some food from home to cook there. There are organised trips if you want them or you can explore on your own although I would definitely recommend the Ice Cap, Russell Glacier and dog sledding excursions. There is not much ... " More >
