"We stayed here en-route to Ashville, NC since we had planned a meeting for noon on the date of arrival in nearby Campton, KY. That meeting changed to 800 the next morning so we got to travel the local area somewhat.
The Lodge is in a beautiful location, Natural Bridge State Resort. It is next t..."o or surrounded by the Danial Boone National Forest. It seems to me to be wilderness like. The room we stayed in had been recently renovated and redecorated, had new carpet, flat screen TV and a wonderful overlook view of a lake and swimming pool 100 feet below. The deck off the room was spacious and private and the connecting wooden door had a screen door. When we found the TV was set to air channels and not cable we called and the onsite manager responded immediately to correct the setting The staff were universally friendly and helpful.
We didn't see a fitness center but all anyone would need is the local trails. My wife took the .75 mile trail to the natural bridge and found the ...

"Location, location, location! My husband and I ended up at this 35-room gem by accident but it is recommended in the Moon travel guide of Kentucky. We fell in love with this place mainly because of the beautiful views from our balcony and direct access to miles of hiking trails literally right out o..."ur back door--the short hike to Natural Bridge is a must see! We only had 2 nites at the lodge but made the most of it by hiking a number of those trails, kayaking the Red River (Red River Adventures nearby rents kayaks/canoes and will shuttle your own boat for a nominal fee), and finally by making a circle driving tour of the Red River Gorge Geological Area on our way out of the Daniel Boone National Forest. We were underwhelmed by the food in the lodge restaurant although it offers convenience. We enjoyed much more the food at Miguel's just a few minutes drive down the road for their made-to-order pizzas, salads, and sandwiches, not to mention their ambience where teems of young rock climb...

"Came to the lodge to do some hiking and was surprised how nice the lodge was. The room I was staying in was in top-notch shape with a balcony overlooking the river. It was 70 degrees out so sitting on the balcony enjoying some beers after some long hikes was so relaxing. From inside, you would think..." you are in a motel room. I stayed in National parks and state parks and none were in as nice shape as this room. Breakfast wasn't bad but the sausage patties were way overcooked. Service in the restaurant and lodge was very good. There aren't too many places to eat around there so having the restaurant was a bonus. The trails were excellent with some being quite strenuous. You have an option of taking a chairlift to the top of the arch and hiking down but that's no picnic either for a few trails. I hiked up trail #2 when I first arrived-BIG MISTAKE. Endless stairs and steepest trail in park. I didn't read the trail guide. I was the only one going UP. Oh well-I made it and had to go back to ...
