  "I had last visited Sangam in 2009. It was still the best hotel in Thanjavur, but was beginning to look a little tired. Now When I visited Sangam in May 2013 with my family for a few temple visits around Thanjavur, it was looking refurbished, spruced up, chic and bright. I had booked the rooms over ..."phone and the rooms were ready when we drove in. The reception area looked spacious though a little bare. Our rooms in the second floor were well done. The twin beds were comfortable. The room had a mini fridge, coffee / tea maker, LCD TV with a good collection of channels. Most importantly it had Ten Sports showing Champions League finals between Bayern & Dortmund. The Central AC was quiet and efficient, keeping us cool in the blistering heat outside. Hotel is situated in well maintained gardens on the bank of sandy river outside the town in rural countryside with ox carts, rice fields, village temples etc. Town is accessible by taxi (or motorikshaw when returning) in 15 min., or you can go by walk up to 2..."0 minutes to the main road and catch the public bus there. There is also the possibility of bike rent in hotel. When walking, it's nor rare, that people from surrounding villages offer you ride on motorbike or lorry - with smile, without any asking for baksheesh. Staff was very friendly and polite, but not "pushy" as staff in some higher rank Indian properties could be. Food was excellent, but it's necessary to say, that we both are pure veg and we also love South Indian food, so I can't tell anything about meat and/or western food quality.
