We've been visiting Mad River Valley (not far from Bristol) for years, and stayed at many places, including the famed Inn at the Round Barn Farm - and the Ru..."ssell Young Farm is on par with that Inn when it comes to attention to detail, ambiance, and quality of decor. It's a small place, with only three rooms - and Glenn & Jaime (and Miss Gigi!) are there if you need them, but for the most part you feel like you're at your own private retreat. The room on the lower floor is great if you have mobility issues - and has its own exit towards the jacuzzi (which is very nice!). We've also stayed upstairs and loved it up there as well. The grounds are great for a stroll - be sure to visit the resident sheep, Daisy & Primrose. Doug's approach to cooking and the slow food movement are appealing both to my kids (who LOVED chasing Doug's chickens around - with Doug'..."s permission) and to me - yum! We have one of our boys on a diet with no food additives (no preservatives, artificial colors or flavors), and it is so nice to be at a restaurant and NOT have to worry about what's he's eating! Breakfast is always divine. The kids get the same choices and service as the grown ups. The bottomless cookie jar is also a favorite:) No worries at dinner either - my son had pasta with sauce: pasta was homemade, sauce was homemade. My other son had grilled cheese - bread was homemade and cheese was from Cabot - what more could you ask for? We have stayed in the Maple Suite and the Tree House and both are great.
