We stayed a week at the two-bedroom house in March 2012. The house was very comfortable, with a nice living area. We like to do our own cooking most of the time and the kitchen had everything we needed. The beds have good new mattresses. As it was still a bit chilly at night we turned on the heater and it worked perfect. Our host Alfonso made us feel very welcome and he gave us lots of great tips on good birding spots. There are many hiking opportunities in the area, as well as beautiful (old) towns to visit of which Marvao, just across the border in Portugal, was one of our favorites.   "The room was suitably convent-like with religious pictures, carved wooden headboards and the cleanest bathroom I've ever seen. Unfortunately there was absolutely no information whatsoever about the place in English so we left none the wiser. There are photos of a chapel which must be nearby and I wo..."uld have loved to have seen and learned about the history of the place. It was pouring with rain the whole of our stay and we dined in sole splendour in the restaurant, which is downstairs in a separate building, with a wood burning stove in the middle of the room and rain hammering down on the roof. The kind owner plied us with breakfast in the same room: meats, toast, cakes, fresh orange juice, coffee! The tv didn't work but I'm sure that was down to the unseasonable weather. " More >
