For: good location, safe Mexican food, veggie options, interesting decor -if you go to restaurants for that kind of thing. Against: super bland food, not cheap, and portions that come in 3 sizes: small, tiny, and minuscule (for dessert I got a cake cube aprox 3/4 inch a side; I kid you not). "Comida corrida" is 5 USD, but you'll... More

We have had two excellent, affordable meals at this quiet, nice little restaurant. Be sure to try the stuffed pepper with white sauce and pomegranates. Truly memorable! The service was kind and efficient and all in all just a nice respite from the busier places. Not far from Santo Domingo Cathedral. A little extra plus: they have free wi fi!... More

Tio Guero has a good value menu del dia although one needs to ask specifically what is offered at the lower price as the regular menu the wait person hands out is a little confusing. We sit in the entry way by the door to avoid the TV which is often on in the upstairs side room. Food is fresh... More

It's a place we've frequented over the years. The food is always good - not great. It's a good reliable meal, nothing that sends my senses into ecstasy. The ambiance is a bit above average. Generally visit about 3-4 times in 5 months.

The restaurant is a cute little space with folk art being sold. It appeared to be popular with locals. When I checked the menu on the outside it stated they could make their dishes for vegetarians. When I asked to have the enchiladas made vegetarian style the waitress indicated this couldn't be done. She recommended the quesadillas that were veggie... More

We ate here yesterday for lunch, probably our 5th visit to this homey, family run restaurant that serves authentic Oaxacan food at fair prices. Sadly, the dining room help has turned over again, and it's obvious the owner expects the new waiters to sink or swim. Our lunch was not as ordered, and language wasn't the barrier either. Seems our... More

One of many restaurants that serve good food at what I consider to be excellent prices (Menu of the Day).

Chef Alfredo at Tio Guero has a magic touch when it comes to his Chile en Nogada (Stuffed Poblano chile with cream nut sauce). Typically a Pueblan dish, Chef Alfredo has changed the filling to one made with Oaxacan ingredients. This dish is particularly rich so diet before going. For the whole comida (mid-afternoon meal) including drink, rice or spaghetti,... More

This is a typical Oaxacan restaurant offering good value but not cutting edge cuisine. It has a typical small restaurant ambience & very friendly service. The menu is well-priced although comparable to dozens of places like it. I wouldn't put it first on my list but if you're in Oaxaca for a while & like to try new places, this... More
