The 'road fly' had good reviews so we were very much looking forward to our first meal in Tulum. My friend 'groan' was generous with his review... Our taxi dropped us off in a very casual and dimly lit atmospheric street which looked very promising indeed... We stepped out into the balmy night and into the throws of El Tabano... More

Hard to describe how disappointed I was with my visit here. Our first night in Tulum and we went here on the recommendation of the guidebook. It looked promising - al fresco candlelit tables, chilled music, welcoming staff. We were told to find a table and relax - someone would be right with us. 20 minutes later my companion had... More

Loved the food at El Tabano! Prepared with care and love by local chefs. Outstanding selection of dishes. I would only suggest that the bar and bar service improves.

My wife and I had an excellent dinner here. This restaurant has tons of character, and the food and service were very good. I took a star off because, on the night we visited, it was buggy because of a shower that afternoon. The building does not get much light, so the bugs like it. But really, the choices are... More

The food at El Tabano is more interesting and complex than most of what can be found on or near the beach, though it wouldn't bother me to see a vegetable once in awhile. The jungle setting is wonderful as well and the massive numbers of mosquitoes can attest to that. Seven or eight bites in less than an hour... More

I'm a regular to Tulum, come there about 4 times a year and had heard good things about the food here. I was excited to try the place. I stopped off here for a drink coming from somewhere else to see the ambiance and to check out the menu and what I got was rude, rude, stuck up staff, you... More

Successful places in Tulum work because they have their own style and stick to their concept. This one is a sweet winner too! El Tabano is your own livingroom. Build heaven out of whatever you have at hand. Highly creative kitchen, funky friendly skilled and open bartenders. Try their Loma Bonita, a mezcal based beauty. Or just tell the staff... More

This was a truly exciting culinary evening! As it is me and my husbands first time in Mexico, and our only experience with Mexican food is tacos and ceviche in other countries, I'm not sure if I can call this restaurant "authentic". But we are very experienced gourmet eaters, and we both agreed that this restaurant was EXQUISITE. Everything was... More

yummmmm ... i had just rode in from town - thirsty and hungry. i was really craving something fresh. I started with an Agua de Sandia - i watched the server bring the watermelon over to the bar - yes, that is fresh. I ordered a cold avocado soup (cucumber & mint) i watched her cut and blend it all... More

The best meal we have had in ten days in Yucatan. Exceptional tastes, perfectly prepared, plus a fine collection of Mexican and Spanish wines. Fine and friendly service. Everyone who works there seems to share the feeling of being happy at their job. Topano is tops!
