Thortons unassuming outside, building and neighbors disguise this amazing restaurant.
In the same building as a bowling alley, and a shooting club, (no shared entrance, not a shooting range) Thortons has an excellent wine selection for any restaurant, let alone one located in Yellowknife.
Billed as a Tapas room, Thorton's also has excellent steaks, fish, and chicken dishes.
The tapas...

Ate here twice, once for Sunday Brunch (dropped by and got lucky -- lots of places closed on Sundays, and Thornton's was full) and once for Friday dinner (we made the reservations at the end of brunch). Very nice atmosphere, friendly and helpful staff. Food was outstanding, and included many house-made ingredients. Some local fresh fish, some imported items (like...

We were not sure where to go for dinner as there is limited possibilities in Yellowknife, but Thornton's turned into quite a gem. The food was good and the price was reasonable, but it was the enthusiasm of the manager and the staff that made this place so comforting. They showed a genuine interest in "tourists" and the atmosphere of...

My husband and I like to eat well when we travel so I'm glad for options like Thornton's (and Fuego).
what we found unique was that you hang up your own coats (and claim it later yourself) and also that they have a box of facial tissue right by the entrance for when you come in from the bitter cold...

It's my partner's birthday and I called a few days ago to make a reservation. I left a message and mentioned this as well as asked for a nice table that I had not been there before. I received a prompt conformation. We set off this evening and were warmly greeted by staff and told to check out coats.Such a...

Although this restaurant has been open since 2008, I haven't made it here til now. Although it's a bit off the main strip and inside a bowling alley, the interior is lovely and certainly ranks with the nicest restaurants in Yellowknife. It's similar to Twist or Fuego.
Service was prompt and attentive but not intrusive. I walked in without a...

Food is really really good, fancy restaurant, atmosphere is classy, on the pricey side but well worth it.
And the only place to serve raw oysters. Fave place for my BF and I for a night out meal, we split the steak tartare for appetizer, and its 'to die for'. But we miss Irene! Try to avoid the busiest time 6-7:30 because the servers can get a little swamped and your appy might show up before your drink.
The best gnocchi I have ever had! It is very nice inside and lovely for couples. I wasn't impressed with the man who greeted us with a hoity toity attitude and seemed put off that we didn't have reservations, even though all the tables were empty. I have been to many fine establishments, without the attitude. However we did enjoy...
