We went to the Black boy on Saturday 15th June after shopping in Sollihull. I have been there many years before and remembered it being a lovely place and that the meals were large! The grounds are pretty and well maintained and inviting. Inside many of the tables were reserved but we found one that wasn't but needed clearing. The... More

Went to the Black Boy for Fathers Day, took the family so my husband could have a day off the washing up. We had a lovely meal, the meals where large and fabulous, the steak was melt in your mouth and my sons had chicken which was lovely and tender, the side orders was large and plentiful as for the... We visited on Wednesday 12 June party of four. We ordered the food, one of the meals was steak with Stilton sauce. When it turned up they forgot the sauce so we asked for it and it turned up fairly quickly. My boyfriend poured it all over the food on his plate then noticed there was mushrooms in it! He... More

I took my girlfriend and her parents here as we'd viewed the menu online and decided there was something we all liked. We arrived to find many tables reserved, we took this as a good sign that it must be popular. After ordering drinks at the bar we sat at a table to pick off the items we'd previously decided... More

Food adequate. However the service was appalling. Whilst there was a small queue to order food the bar person stood with her arms folded and a glum face and pointed to the bar man beside her. so whilst my husband stood waiting she stood with her arms folded and a glum face. In these times of austerity and local pubs... More

Sunday lunch at The Black Boy. Packed, large country pub restaurant, used to be a great venue 10 years ago. Now a feels a little grubby and was absolutely rammed with people of all sorts, some of whom, shall we say, were more than a little "rough around the edges" in fact the conversation we overheard on the table next... I took my Aunt for something to eat there today, as a treat. My memories of The Black Boy were always good. We arrived, lovely grounds brought back alot of memories. We found a table , which hadnt been cleared , but thats normal so no issue. I went to the bar to order drinks and food. I was served... More

After ordering and paying for the food I was only then informed that we could expect a wait of an hour for the food even though there were several empty tables inside the pub. One hour and fifteen minutes later the food finally turned up. The jacket potato was burnt, it was actually like charcoal underneath - totally black. Halfway... More

My boyfriend and I have eaten here in the past, though not very often due to the poor service often received and the less than welcoming bar/service staff. Today we visited as a 'last chance' as we were passing. We (surprisingly) found a clean table straight away, but that was the only plus point of the visit. We ordered our... More
