We always stop for lunch here whenever we're in Port Alberni. I always have their 2 piece halibut plate. Your choice of traditional English batter, or panako breadcrumb batter, or for a healthier choice, just grilled. 2 generous pieces of fish (and 2 sauces of your choice), with choice of ceasar salad or coleslaw, and a generous portion of chips... Yes it really is well done and presented with friendly service. We came early to this renovated old church turned restaurant and found locked doors with closed signs, but no information about when they would open, 11:30 is when. One piece Halibut fried in traditional beer batter was outstanding as were the fries. Perhaps the best fish and chips we... More

we stopped on our way to Tofino based on reviews and were very happy we did! Small menu but provides enough flexibility (choose type of fish - halibut, cod, salmon, type of batter - english style, panko bread, grilled, type of side - fries, caesar salad, coleslaw or 1/2 combinations and 2 sauces - plum sauce, lemon dill, tartar, tangy... Don't pass this place by on your way through Port Alberni. So many choices (but not too many). Have been there a few times and the quality is always tops. Servers do a great job and the portions are not small. Great prawns also. Located in an old church and parking just outside the door.

Stopped on our way back from the West Coast, with a craving for GOOD FIsh and Chips. Bare Bones did not disappoint! Who needs tarter sauce when the beer-battered cod is flavourful and moist. Just perfect. Salads were just OK, but we loved the fish and will hope to get back one day! The building and atmosphere are absolutely charming... More

Ate on the way to and from Tofino on the Family Day long weekend. Our table of 10 had a wide variety of the options available: english beer battered; panko and fire grilled. Halibut, salmon and prawns. Everyone raved about their choices, on both occassions. My panko covered halibut was the nicest cooked piece of fish I've every had. The... More
