Stopped for lunch here on a rare sunny day and were lucky to find a table outside, at the front. Nice location and view. I had grilled goats cheese and some chips. While it was pleasant I was slightly dispappointed after reading all the rave reviews. Price was ok though and the wine was nice. I would go back maybe... More

Dear guest, thank you for your review, I'm pleased that you enjoyed your visit, and that you found the wine, the food and the surroundings to your liking. We are certainly very lucky to have a great location opposite Winchester cathedral, and on sunny days it's a great spot to "people-watch" in the Square. The grilled goat's cheese salad with... More

Dined here for hubbies birthday whilst visiting our daughter who is at Southampton Uni to have a change from Southampton 'chain' restauarants. Lovely location ( but we fell in love with Winchester overall) and we had table in front window of restaurant which was a bit drafty but not a major issue in May. Attentive service, all dishes we ordered... More

My wife and I had lunch there today. We've been many times before. Today I had the Sea Bass and my wife the Salmon. Both were delicious and whilst served in sensible pub sized portions, this food goes beyond your average pub food. The wine recommended to accompany the fish was perfectly complimentary. We finished off sharing a bread &... More

Dear Guest, thank you for your comprehensive review, I'm delighted to see that you enjoyed your visit in the main, and that the salmon with Hampshire watercress sauce and the seabass steamed in a bag with garlic butter & spring vegetables met with your approval. The bread & butter pudding is indeed home-made, and is one of our more popular... More

Visited for lunch on a supposedly quiet Monday. Luckily we booked as the place was full. Very comfortable restaurant with good food and ambiance much preferable to eating in the bar which can be a bit of a squeeze.

Dear Guest, thanks for the feedback, I'm pleased to see you enjoyed your visit. We're happy to serve food throughout the venue, but the bar is small, and in here it's first come first served, so it's always advisable to book a table in the restaurant, as any day of the week can be busy. Once again, thanks for your... More

My husband booked an evening meal for us to celebrate my birthday. The restaurant has a very nice feel to it and has a with a lovely log fire. The menu had adequate choices but when my husband requested something other than wilted spinach with his steak he was refused. He was disappointed as he ended up just having steak... More

Dear guest, thank you for posting your feedback. I'm glad you enjoyed your visit in the main, although I apologise that your husband request to change the spinach with his steak was not accommodated. We always try to accommodate changes where possible, so I cannot say for certain why your husband was left disappointed. I will issue a memo to... More

Stayed in Winchester for a couple of nights and stayed at the old Vine. Very cosy, high quality rooms with great views of the cathedral. Breakfast again superb, with good options instead if the the usual full English. Lunch was also very good, a high standard for a pub, although we both felt our dishes were lacking heat, but flavours... More

Excellent food and service. We had crayfish salad to start which was one of the best I have had, for main course I had mussels which was delicious and huge. We were in the family courtyard room which was nice and made us feel relaxed with the kids in tow

My husband and I had decided to go to Winchester for Easter weekend, and never having been there, we both looked at Trip Advisor. We independently chose the same restaurant for our first night - Old Vine. What a great decision that was!! When we booked it, the guy was very friendly. They rang us on the afternoon to check... We visited the Old Vine whilst having a day out without our young child and chose this venue from tripadvisor. Not an awful lot to say here, very pleasant place but a little more suited to the older generation, evidenced by the customers at lunch. The sandwich I had was ok but not special and had way to much red... More

Dear guest, I'm delighted to hear that you were well looked after on your recent visit. Both the pear salad with blue cheese and the guinea fowl supreme with creamy mushroom sauce are very popular dishes, sadly they are both about to make way for new dishes as spring arrives, but they will be back later on in the year....
