We usually, when in Belfast, make the Merchant a pitstop for light lunch and enjoy the relaxing atmosphere and great decor. I am not sure we will be going back again as, in my opinion the whole experience has now dropped way below average. Sure, there are people out there who want to brag they have been to the Merchant... Having dined in the (truly excellent) Great Room next door, went in here for a nightcap. The Black Russian came with Coke (eeek!) and the Vodka Martini was not the best (I didn't see them use a shaker) and was served in the wrong glass. A second round was passed up as we couldn't get anyone to take our order.... More

Three of us booked for afternoon tea at the hotel. The surroundings were lovely and the waiters most attentive. There is an extensive menu of various types of tea and you can add champagne for another £10. However, we thought that a bit pricey when already paying £26 each. The food was fine - a very small selection of sandwiches... More

Called in recently, with my wife and her work colleague. The building is superb, as you would expect from an old Bank, the surroundings very relaxing. The perfect place to recharge your batteries - excellent nibbles. TO BE USED AGAIN !!

Had drinks in here last night after a great meal in the nearby Potted Hen restaurant. Hotel staff were friendly and welcoming, making us feel that our custom was appreciated. The luxurious surroundings are always a treat. The cocktail menu is something else and watching the guys behind the bar creating these masterpieces is great entertainment. I had a Collins... More

We called in after a meal for a cocktail and were most impressed - they were superb. They cost £10 but are served with nibbles (olives, papadoms and parmesan biscuits) and with the ambiance and stuning setting make them good value.

This a beautiful converted bank with many of the original features including a beautiful ceiling. The drinks are rather more expensive than usual but the bar snacks that they serve with it make up for it. Their afternoon tea of tiny sandwiches and cakes is delicious and very filling. The staff are always very helpful even if you just want... More

We always have lunch at the Merchant when we are in Belfast. We sit in the bar but you get 'proper' service, cloth napkins and brilliant food. A very stylish place to have lunch!

The Merchant's new roof top bar was really wonderful, especially on our first sunny day of the year BUT since when has it become acceptable to charge a service charge for two glasses of wine? It may say on the bill discretionary but when the waiter tells you what you owe, how is that discretionary? So we paid an extra... More

Visited here before Christmas. The whole scene was amazing. The craic was mighty and the bar staff superb. Keep pouring.
