Very small restaurant with no menu and not much English spoken. We were the only tourists and the owner Salvatore told us to trust him for the menu, which we did. We had seven courses of unbelievable seafood, served over three hours. We cannot wait to return next year. There is limited pasta for the non seafood customers.

il cannuccio located just in the middle of old center of bologna. it is a small place (15 tables max.) and reservation is necessary if you want to eat there. i will not say no english menu, they don' t have even italian menu or they prefer to talk to the customer instead of giving the menu. if you are... I loved this little seafood trattoria, from the wonderfully cluttered nautical-themed interior decorations, to the friendly relaxed service, to the beautiful, fresh seafood and the quality prosecco. While our waiter did not really speak English, he good naturedly persevered with his smattering of English and assistance from the helpful man at the next table. He succeeded in communicating that we... More

My wife and I ate here twice on our recent trip to Bologna. No menu. The first night the friendly proprietor (from Sicily) picked about six small seafood dishes each better than the next followed by a pasta and home made lemoncello. Everything was wonderful. The second night we ordered a salt encrusted sea bass for two. Amazing! Then a... More

We had a lovely evening in this bustling fish restaurant. There was no menu and the waiters spoke very little english. The waiter explained that he would bring us a variety of fresh fishfor antipasti and then we would have a pasta course (we think). He also recommended a wine which was very tasty. We were brought about 5 or... More

Quite an experience. There was no menu - but we were told there would be a fish antipasti followed by pasta. The fish antipasti comprised six or seven different courses - we lost count! All well prepared and presented. Staff welcoming and helpful but not much English. Not cheap and not perhaps the place for a newcomer to Italy but a... More

Having read other reviews we were obviously very lucky to be able to get a table at this restaurant. It was a tuesday night and probably a little earlier than some Italian's normally eat. We sat outside and were impressed by the service and the food and the wine. Like most Italian cities if you stray just off the main... More

We came here as it was recommended by our hotel. However, the place was full, so they made us a reservation for the following evening. The menu that is posted outside the restaurant will not help much, as there are no prices at all. Fish dishes are apparently charged per weight of the fish. The staff did not really speak... More

We dined in over 20 restaurants during our stay in Bologna and thought Il Cantuccio was right at the top for what seemed to us the quintessential Bolognese dining experience. This is not a tourist haunt, it is a marvelous little example of Bologna's well-earned reputation for fine food. It's not surprising that 19 of the 21 reviews on TripAdvisor... More

This was such an amazing find.....in a small side street downtonw Bologna, not very inviting from outside but wait until you sit down and they start bringing out the food. Fresh seafood specialties with a twist, casual & relaxed atmosphere as if you were at a friend's house. I went with customers twice and they all loved it.
