This is probably the best restaurant in this town. Very expensive and a great place for a romantic dinner. The food is very good but it takes forever to get it. The terrace is great for a city rooftop view. The owner is always around making sure all his guests are taken care of. Definitely recommend as a special occasion... More

Set inside a 16th Century jail, this gem is a must for anyone staying at or near the Pousada. It is literally 25 yards outside the front door of the pousada itself. We found the staff to be very friendly, attentive, and professional. The food was exceptional, as well. Great selection of traditional Alentejan food and wines. As this was... More

I am surprised that this restaurant has received such good reviews. I was very disapointed. The food was way too expensive in comparison to what was delivered. My chicken was not cooked properly and some parts were raw, which really is not acceptable. My friends food on the other hand was over cooked and the mest was dry. In summery,... More

We arrived early, seeking shelter from the wind and rain, and were warmly welcomed although the staff were still eating. We were given menus to browse and the time passed very quickly. This is a most imaginative conversion of the old jail up near the historic centre of the town and you can read the history of the building on... More

This restaurant is a must if you go to Estremoz. Everytime we have been there, the food and service are fantastic, you must see by yourself. It is not a cheap restaurant but worth every € you spend there

Like the environment. The service can be somewhat slow. It is the region's typical food with an upgrade - some might prefer the original thing... After dinner, go the upstairs bar

The good impression began with the phone call when they told they would keep the table reserved no matter the hour of our arrival (had a 2 hour car trip to estremoz). The welcoming was so sympathetic that we found ourselves amazed (we can't find that atitude anymore, even in portuguese restaurants...). Eated 3 starters (mussels, grilled mushrooms and "morcela"... The restaurant is located in the historic center of Estremoz village, inside the old castle walls, and next to the Pousada/Castle tower and old medieval plaza with lovely churches. It used to be a old prision (hence the name "a cadeia" = "the jail"), dated from the 16th century, where you can actually see old (400 yo) drawings carved in... More

This restaurant has the whole package: the setting (15th century jail building in the castle: jail downstairs; jailkeeper quarters upstairs); the ambiance (good taste decoration); the produce (fresh and local, game in game season that starts in the end of the summer); the cooking (respects its origins but is presented in a contemporary style); and the service (educated waiters which... Very good food, service and atmosphere. A couple will spend around 65 euros for a remarkable dinner, with a 3/8 bottle of wine and desert. The restaurant is located up to the hill, inside the medieval city walls. The full name is "Cadeia Quinhentista". "Cadeia" means jail, and the restaurant is at where a jail took place centuries ago.
