As we were in Newbury I found the restaurant almost by accident. We had the set dinner of 5 courses with matching wine as we didn't have the knowlege to choose the wines from the huge selection. The staff were amazing as we were asking how the courses were cooked or why the wine was matched. My only regret was... More

The Vineyard, being a top hotel/spa retreat, you would expect to be ridiculously expensive for food. However, we were pleasantly surprised with the fixed price menus that are regularly offered at weekends. The food was recognisably cooked by a Michelin starred kitchen with some inventive courses but the restaurant environment itself wasn't quite up to expectations.

The Vineyard has an enviable reputation based partly on its huge and extensive wine list and we visited with friends for lunch. The wine list was indeed enormous and by no means limited to highly priced wine which is a plus. The service was good but the food was just a little disappointing-not by any means bad, just not that... More

Recently visited The Vineyard for a work dinner. The rooms were fantastic and all the guests enjoyed their stay. The dinner was delicious, again everyone enjoying their meals, however there were a few comments that the portions were a little small (as is often the case in most fine dining establishments). For example, only 2 scallops on the starter dishes,... More

We dined again at The Vineyard last weekend. We are frequent flyers to this hotel and love it. We were not disappointed this time for a Saturday lunch. I chose the Pressed terrine of foie gras, carrot, celery, spice of angels to start. My husband, the hand dived Orkney scallops, broccoli, almonds. Main courses were Fillet of Cornish sea bass,... I originally wrote this review last year but the internet gremlins somehow lost it, and i just realised that i had not posted the review. An excellent evening - 7 course tasterr menu, with wine. The young Spanish lady who was the sommelier working that evening was knowledgeable, and enthusiatic without being intrusive or overbearing. The wines were explained and... More

We went for a birthday treat and had the five-course "Discovery" menu with matching wines. The food was lovely and the wines matched brilliantly - great work by the sommelier. Excellent service and a really nice atmosphere with Richard the pianist playing a nice selection of tunes, including requests from guests.

I actually went to the Vineyard to do a radio interview with Daniel Galmiche and he was a joy to interview, incredibly passionate about food, he wanted to be a chef from the age of 5. His pick your own tasting menu is unique and a really good idea. They also offer traditional tasting menus with matching wines. One is... More

Great welcome from the Maitre D. , but it went downhill from there. Standard of service and attention to detail from staff were way below what I expect from a restaurant of this standard and price. We twice had to ask for wine to be refilled. Wrong dishes delivered. Young lady who got our coats on departure was downright rude.

Dear 224DavidR224 I must apologise on behalf of all The Vineyard team, as on this occasion we most obviously have failed to deliver even the basics of hospitality, let alone the high standards we normally achieve and maintain. I assure you I will look into this further to ensure that events like this are not repeated. However should you feel... More

We had a wonderful birthday lunch here yesterday. As usual, very attentive service and great food. Our 5th visit in a couple of months. Attended the wine tasting very recently - amazing Californian wines - a real treat.
