double cream served with icecream here. Sit outside and enjoy. The waitresses not that friendly-too many tourists I guess . Overrun by guests from Asian Continent.
The small town of Gruyeres has on the historical townsquare a few good restaurants. Whave eaten twice the fondue here. It is reasonable priced. The terrace is charming with a splendid view of the square. The service is correct and rapid. The housewine is good. I find the landscape of La Gruyere one of the most interesting in the country... We had dinner in the back area with a great view. The sun was I my face, so I sat beside my wife instead of across from her as I would have preferred. The service was good, but a smile would have made it better. We had fondue, of course. When we asked if a salad each and splitting the... More
Many Swiss restaurants serve small portions for a lot of money. This restaurant in picture perfect tiny Gruyere does the opposite. We tried four different dishes, and the food was all delicious and in take-home sized servings. The rich quiche, hot crisp Rosti and meat and cheese platters were reasonably priced (for Switzerland) and prepared and presented well. We sat... More
We ended up here because everything was closed at 19:30. It was a good choice.Food was good and they had a good Swiss wine selection. I made a good choice with the wine and also with the food.
The wife, 2yr old daugher and I drove over to Gruyeres for a one night stay and given it was March and not at all high season for tourism here, figured we wouldn't sweat reserving a spot for dinner at the more popular destinations in the tiny city centre of Gruyeres. Well, we were surprised to find nearly everything booked... More
You don't go to Gruyeres for innovative cuisine. This restaurant is traditional and very typically Swiss. We were a party of 6 and had vol-au-vent (puff pastry filled with creamy chicken, bacon sauce), a horse-meat steak (yes, horse meat is popular in Switzerland), fondu, spaghetti and an omelette. All the meals arrived fresh and hot and were tasty. Prices are... More
Great fondue with tiny potatoes, great selection of wine, brilliant hosts, the mozzarella and tomato salad was insanely tasty, the tomatoes were as fresh as ever, taking a bite felt like eating an apple.
We had a nice fondue meal here and some amazing fruit, cream and meringues for dessert. Atmosphere is OK - it was too bad a busload of loud all-male tourists came in and drowned out any chance of conversation. But it was a nice experience.
