We had been told that the Red Lion was doing a curry night on Thursdays so went to try it out. There were two available - vegetable Rogan Josh and chicken korma. Neither appealed to me but my wife ordered the korma and I had the fish pie. It wasn't a korma. More like a chicken casserole - a full... More

I am originally from Birchover so spent most of my youth in the Red Lion. It was a great place for the locals, great atmosphere, great people, great beer and amazing food. In my recent visit back to the Village, I thought it might nice to pay a visit, however I wish I'd never bothered. The place is completely different,... More

As always, we regret to see that our customers have had a disappointing experience with us. However, in this case, we feel the review casts us in an unfair and inaccurate light and we would therefore like to register our response. Firstly, it isn't entirely clear as to whether this customer sampled any of our food at all and is... More

Came here for a romantic meal, expecting high standards from what I had read on here. Unfortunatley what we got was a hostile feeling atmosphere, staff who didn't even smile. A long wait for our food and when it did arrive wasnt particularly hot. I don't think we will be going back.

We ate here over the Easter weekend, on the Saturday night. The poached salmon was lovely (if ever so slightly over-cooked) and the burger was amazing!! Very attentive service and excellent and very cheap wine. The owner is very friendly and we loved the group of people who turned up with their fiddles, guitars etc and started playing.

Living local we visit the Red Lion often . When Matteo took it over a few years ago adding a Mediterranean / Sardinian twist to the British menu it truly became a great place to dine . The Red lion is at the heart of Birchover village even more so since the village shop shut .Matteo converted some outside space... More

We had a lovely relaxing time in the bar. the bar staff were really friendly and the beers were great. They had a good selection and was happy to let us try them out. If I was rating this pub, just on drinks they would get a 5 star. However, we moved to the dining area to eat food. The... More

After visiting this pub on a quiet - save for the darts match - Tuesday evening, I must say I have nothing but praise for the place. As soon as we entered the woman serving behind the bar made us feel very welcome and the Nine Ladies (?) beer, which is brewed specially for the pub is an excellent example... More

Two friends and I went to visit this pub, because of a recommendation from our university lecturer and when we pulled up to this little pub although quite confused when we walked up to what we thought was the entrance but was a door from the previous pub layout but just sealed shut; when we did eventually make way in...
