This is nice restaurant set in a lovely sandstone building on Salamanca Place. The food was good and the salad bar bottomless, which was nice.

"Superb" steaks is subjective and probably a bit of a reach given I've eaten meat all over the world but my medium porterhouse was pretty good. Better half loved the grilled rainbow trout and a bottle of red with polite, quick and friendly service with no prior booking on a Saturday night made it a very pleasant dining experience
We had a recommendation from a friend to visit the Ball and Chain Grill and we weren't disappointed the place was brilliant! The steak was cooked to perfection, over a charcoal grill which gave it a smokey barbecued flavour and the complimentary salad bar was a hit (salad bar = pasta, noodles, salads, something that we really enjoyed as everyone...

Mum & I just spent the weekend in Hobart and visited the Ball & Chain for Dinner without any reservation on a Sturday night with no problem. We both ordered the Porterhouse Steak and it was cooked to almost perfection. Melt in your mouth, hardly need to chew. Medium cooked.
The Salad bar was good too with some interesting variety...

As others have said there are no bookings. So we waited about 30 minutes to get in.
Upon ordering all seemed well when entrees came out pretty quick. But then the long wait begun. It took well over 1hr for our steaks to come. They were ok but could not warrant the time it took. The peanut butter ice cream...

We were a part of 3 - two locals and one out of towner. The Ball and Chain does not accept reservations for parties of 3 - why not?? However, we went early and did not have to wait for a table.
The steaks are delicious and we all enjoyed the salad bar that is included in all mains. This...

A steak restaurant with other offerings. On the night we dined all restaurants were very busy and there was a queue at this one too. However we stayed and waited as the restaurant also has a very cosy ilttle pub-like bar where we could review the menu and have a drink (or two as our wait was in excess of...

This restaurant seems to be very popular with tourists and locals alike, and it is often known as the best place for steaks in Hobart. We (tourists) went here for a rather early dinner on a Friday night, and the place was packed. Lucky that we made a reservation before!
Busy as it was, the service was quite efficient and...

My wife and I dined at the Ball and Chain with three other guests. All except one had been there on a number of occasions over the years so were familiar with what was on offer. The Ball and Chain is a restaurant that potentially has a lot to offer, but unfortunately, just misses the mark. The atmosphere is great,...

We popped in here the other night, we have been past many times but as we were parked right outside decided on the spur of the moment to try it out... We were met by a very pleasant young man who took us to our table and told us how things happened..
The salad bar was fantastic, lots of choice...
