Description: Winner of Best Cafe in Nelson 2011 by Cafe Magazine. Bright, busy cafe in an historic building in central Nelson. Strong following of loyal locals but plenty to entice visitors as well. The menu changes seasonally and focuses on fresh, natural flavours that build on a number of ethnic cuisine styles. Our breakfasts have a large fan base with favourites like the Bacon & Eggs and Morrison Street's Local Breakfast staying on the menu year after year. Lunch includes Caribbean Lamb with Pumpkin & Feta, a Chicken & Chorizo Paella and a Mussel & Saffron Soup. There's plenty of fresh baking each day, a healthy kids menu and our coffee is excellent. There are lots of options for wheat, gluten & dairy sensitive people and vegetarians as well.

I visit Nelson about once a year, and always make a point of visiting the Morrison Street Cafe. The food is always enjoyable, varied, fresh and the menu gets changed. I've been given a copy of their cookbook too - what a stunner!

Nice to hear you enjoy your regular visits here. And that you like the cookbook. It's been received very well and we are now in to our second print run. It seems they make a great little gift More

Love the atmosphere and bustle of Morrison's on Hardy. Great to stop after visiting Eclectic 20th century furniture, clothing, and collectables store, or Everyman's, or Fashion Island. Great niche quarter in Nelson City.

We needed to have a quick breakfast before leaving Nelson & decided to try Morrisons as we hadn't had a chance to go there before then. Service was great & we were seated quickly. Needing something to sustain us until lunchtime, we decided on the porridge with the berry/rhubarb compote. This took quite some time to arrive & we assumed... More

Hi Thank you for your review. We are sorry to hear your experience wasn't as you hoped. Regarding the porridge - each menu item is outlined on the menu and this particular porridge is made from toasted oats rather than the usual soft rolled oats, which does give it more crunch and body. However I will pass your comments to... More

Great food, great coffee, great service! This is my regular for breakfast when I'm in Nelson on business. My favourite is the bagel with the homemade sundried tomato and capsicum pesto, simply to die for. Coffee are great too, albeit a little on the small side. Well priced too. Try it, you won't be disappointed.

good coffee and food which is changing on a regular basis. They cater for gluten free and they used to cater for dairy free as well but these options have diminished a bit unfortunately. Not cheap but which cafe in Nelson is cheap nowadays....

We stopped here for lunch one day as we passed through Nelson. We hadn't read any reviews about this cafe but tried it because it looked good. Our first impressions were correct. Everything about this place we really liked. It was a shame we were in Nelson for such a short period as we would have liked to have gone... More

We had heard about Morrisons before arriving in Nelson so made it our first stop for lunch. The food was good and wholesome and the coffee hit the spot. Service was casual and no-one was in a rush, which can certainly make a nice change from the hustle and bustle of some places. Look forward to coming back to try... More

We ordered some pancakes and an off menu chem ex coffee, which was a pleasant surprise. The coffee was good and the pancakes were very good as well(photo included). Thank you for your nice review. The wi-fi issue is an interesting one as we have as many customers who want wi-fi as those who want the cafe to remain a tech free space. More
