We have spend there a nice evening drinking an excellent hungarian beer (pils and red not filtered, both very good). We have eaten a good goulash and a testy goose.
Fortunately I did not come here on an empty stomach. The 'golubtsy' I have ordered had absolutely nothing in common with the real thing I had in Ukraine earlier in the year. Frankly, there were quite atrocious - some of worst pub food I have ever tasted to be honest. Needless to say my appetite was somewhat diminished by the... More
Planning our visit to Budapest we found a lot of good recommendations for the restaurant. Since we stayed in a hotel close to the restaurant we took the opportunity and visited it three times. We enjoyed red beer and dark beer, pork and veal, desserts and goulash. We liked that the food was not extermely hot with paprica. It was... More
Came with a group of 35. Professional service and surprisingly good food for such a large group. Nice cellar. However, they should not poor the beer up at front even if it is efficient. Dead beer not so nice. Food was however some of the best we had in Budapest. Would come again.
I've been many times at the Kaltenberg over the years and I wouldn't be returning if it wouldn't be good every time. Portions are always big, the food is real tasty, the musicians do provide a nice atmosphere that I tend to miss when I dine out. They also have their own lager that's rather good. I've had some nice... More
I became to know the restaurant that one university student who I first met recommended. Even though I have no criteria to judge hungarian food, the taste and service was good and atmosphere was cozy. Moreover, gypsy musician make atmosphere better. Therefore, I recommend this restaurant to those who want to try and look for traditional food.
I wish it was possible to give this restaurant a less than zero rating. Our hotel recommended it on our first night and talked up the live gypsy music and the ambience. There was indeed some musicians playing when we arrived but within the first 2 minutes they left and never returned for the rest of the meal although I... More
While visiting Budapest, we went with friends and family and had a fabulous meal and beer. The Cordon blue was great...my Dad had the pigs knuckles and a liter stein of beer.. Definitely a great pub atmosphere with big portions.
The onion soup is very good. It's steaming hot. Then I had pork chop rice. The rice is too soft and a little salty. The pork chip is tender, but again too salty. Generally, acceptable if dining atmosphere is important for you.
The menu is good, but the foods are not knowing who knows the hungarian or international kitchen. The plates are not nice and not identied with that1s what i in school have to learn! A good housewife can better and nicer cooking like in this restaurant. This is a Beerlocal too, but the beer had too much (double like normally... More
